THRIVE Academy is a Therapeutic, Trauma-Informed alternative school serving students in grades K–12 from 27 partner districts across North Central Iowa. We support students who may be disconnected from traditional education due to trauma, behavioral challenges, and social-emotional or mental health needs.

At THRIVE, physical education and health are not secondary subjects - they are foundational components of helping students build Healthy Habits, self-regulation skills, and resilience necessary for success in school and life.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Full-Time Physical Education & Health Teacher to provide engaging, structured, and developmentally appropriate instruction across multiple grade levels.

This role integrates physical activity, wellness education, and trauma-informed practices to help students develop healthy coping skills, teamwork abilities, emotional regulation, and personal responsibility. The PE/Health Teacher is an important member of our MTSS and behavior support systems, helping students channel energy in positive, productive ways.

What You'll Do
  • Teach Physical Education and Health across various grade levels.
  • Design engaging lessons that promote physical fitness, teamwork, and lifelong wellness habits.
  • Integrate health education topics, including nutrition, stress management, and personal wellness.
  • Utilize trauma-informed practices to support emotional regulation through movement.
  • Create a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse academic, behavioral, and physical ability levels.
  • Apply MTSS frameworks within instruction and student support.
  • Maintain accurate records and engage in ongoing professional growth.
