Thread Rolling Set Up Operator information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Thread Rolling Set Up Operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Thread Rolling Set Up Operator, you need a solid understanding of machining processes, blueprint reading, and mechanical aptitude, often supported by a high school diploma or technical training. Familiarity with thread rolling machines, calipers, micrometers, and quality inspection systems is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently are important soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure precise machine setup, product quality, and efficient production in manufacturing environments.

What are some of the main challenges Thread Rolling Set Up Operators face during machine setup and production runs?

Thread Rolling Set Up Operators often encounter challenges such as ensuring precise alignment of dies, selecting the correct tooling for different thread specifications, and maintaining consistent product quality during production runs. Additionally, they must troubleshoot and resolve issues like material feed problems or tool wear quickly to minimize downtime. Effective communication with quality control inspectors and maintenance teams is essential to address any deviations and keep operations running smoothly.

What does a Thread Rolling Set Up Operator do?

A Thread Rolling Set Up Operator is responsible for setting up and operating machines that form threads on metal parts, such as bolts or screws, by pressing or rolling them between dies. They ensure the equipment is properly adjusted, select the correct dies and settings for each job, and inspect finished products for accuracy and quality. Their role is essential in manufacturing industries that produce threaded fasteners and components.

Job description

Description:

Thread Rolling Machinist

Location: Climate-controlled facility in Beachwood, OH

Shift hours: 7AM–3:30PM

Pay: $25–$31/hr based on experience (paid weekly + OT eligible)

We manufacture precision ball screws and linear components for aerospace, medical, and defense. We need someone who has run thread rolling machines: set them up, dialed them in, and held tight tolerances. If that's you, keep reading.

Hard Requirements

  • 2-3+ years operating and setting up thread rolling machines, this is required, not preferred
  • Experience producing acme or lead screws is strongly preferred
  • Must be able to read blueprints and work to print
  • Must be able to inspect your own parts using mics, calipers, and indicators
  • Must be comfortable with shop math, if you've used it on the job, be ready to talk through it
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
  • Must be a U.S. person (citizen or lawful permanent resident) – required by U.S. export control law

If you don't have direct thread rolling experience, this role isn't the right fit.

What You'll Do

  • Set up and operate thread rolling machines to produce components to print
  • Inspect your own output, you own the quality of what you make
  • Make setup adjustments to maintain process control and minimize scrap
  • Document inspection results and production data accurately
  • Flag problems when you see them, we don't work around issues here
  • Follow work instructions and AS9100/ISO 9001 procedures
  • Keep your workstation clean, organized, and safe

What It's Like to Work Here:

  • Climate-controlled facility, no harsh shop conditions
  • Exposure to advanced equipment: Swiss CNC lathes, multi-axis mills, precision grinders
  • Team of machinists and engineers who take their work seriously
  • Opportunity for training and career growth
  • Consistent day shift, no rotating schedules
  • Your work goes into aerospace, defense, and medical systems. The parts you make matter to the end customer, we don't lose sight of that
  • We move with urgency, but we don't cut corners to get there

Compensation and Benefits

  • $25–$31/hr based on experience
  • Weekly pay
  • Overtime eligible
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Retirement plan
  • PTO and major holidays
