Job description

Job Summary:

Tufting Assistants will have the duties of creeling, burning in, and running machines when needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate assigned machines.
  • Must be able to recognize and repair quality problems.
  • Burn in beams with burner rack
  • Change and secure backing for machines.
  • Creel machines in tufting and possibly warping.
  • Responsible for making first quality carpet and notifying supervisor of any quality problem.
  • Must inspect carpet at intervals of no less than 50 feet.
  • Repair carpet using a mending gun or punch needle
  • Drop rolls from a rollup and start new rolls onto tufting cores.
  • Run tufting machines during the Tufting Operator break periods.

Performance Expectations (if applicable):

  • Lifting is required of cores weighing 20+ lbs. 6 to 10 times per shift and cones of yarn weighing 5 to 16 lbs at different rates based on creel needs.
  • Must be able to push yarn dollies/ cart loaded with yarn through the creel with a max weight of 450 lbs.
  • Standing is continuous, estimated 7.5 hours per shift.
  • Reaching is required to thread up machine every 1 to 10 minutes while machine is running
  • Stooping is required for intervals of 10 seconds during the shift.
  • Bending is required multiple times during the shift to thread up machine
  • Scissors must be used multiple times per shift.
  • Snips will be used multiple times per hour during shift
  • Must be able to distinguish colors and shade differences.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, and kneel.
  • Required to climb stairs, balance, and work on two level creel racks without issue

Experience/Education Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preffered.
  • Must be able to read and write and do basic addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication

Other Requirements:

  • Learn and follow safety procedures and guidelines for the position and plant location
  • Responsible for making first quality carpet and notifying supervisor of any quality problem.
  • Run or creel required footage/poundage expectations based on machine time and speed outputs
  • Overtime is required on occasion.
  • All accidents must be reported immediately.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
  • Safety equipment must be worn as required.
  • Report to management any quality, safety, or potential problems encountered while performing the job.
