PHYSICAL THERAPY AIDE

ABILITIES: 

Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, staff and establish / maintain effective professional relationships.

Ability to use effective problem solving/ decision-making by careful observation of patient and recommendation of appropriate treatment changes.

Ability to use departmental systems properly to maintain organization effectively including computer scheduling and ordering of supplies as needed, this may include asked supply needs or assess department supply needs without supervision.

Ability to work 40 hours per week, with overtime as needed.


ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Primarily treatment / exercise room setting


PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Low level of physical demands including standing, walking, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping. Requires ability to lift, carry and move equipment up to 50 pounds.

POSITISION OBJECTIVES: The Therapy aide is a non-licensed worker. The aide's primary function is to perform designated routine tasks related to the operation of the Therapy service and may assist with patient-related activities, which are predetermined for each patient and assigned by the therapist.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the therapist in clinical areas of the department. Perform treatment procedures predetermined for each patient by the legally qualified therapist. (Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist).
  • Prepare the treatment area, patient and equipment for treatment. Initiate treatment and monitor patient at regular intervals until treatment or exercise conclusion.
  • Assist patient in the safe practice of activities related to the development of strength and endurance. .
  • Check equipment for proper functioning and appropriate location.
  • Maintenance:
  • Follow established procedures pertaining to the care of equipment and supplies.
  • Prepare, maintain and clean-up workstations, treatment areas and the gym.
  • Maintain other supportive areas
  • May copy materials as appropriate; may file notes within electronic charts; make pertinent notations Electronic Record
  • May record treatments of patients in chart review and process charge tickets; process, handle and file other type of documentation, i.e., Record of change measurements done by treating therapist, reports, Patient Treatment Plans, new prescriptions, outside reports, etc
  • May order supplies according to Clinic policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned
  • Perform front office duties as needed
