Position Title
Seminary Grants Program Manager - Ashland Theological Seminary
Job Description
Ashland Theological Seminary (ATS) equips modern-day disciples to serve as leaders and counselors in diverse ministry and professional contexts. The ATS Grants team supports this mission by cultivating partnerships, designing and delivering high-quality non-academic programming, and stewarding grant funding for strategic innovation and institutional learning. Our current portfolio includes programs focused on clergy and clergy family well-being; rural ministry and community resilience; courageous preaching; and seminary education and business-model innovation. The team manages nearly $5M in active awards along with significant leverage commitments.
The Program Manager manages assigned awards, including stakeholder relationships, implementation planning and execution, reflection and learning routines, and reporting. This position will help position our portfolio for success by creating fit-for-purpose program management frameworks and setting up a project management software for the ATS Grants team.
  • Lead planning, execution, and reporting for assigned awards. Manage relationships with subgrantees, partners, and vendors related to the awards.
  • Set up and administer project management software for the ATS Grants team. Develop standardized templates and quarterly review frameworks for annual planning and deliverable tracking to be used across the portfolio and by subaward partners.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation and ensure that management practices follow internal controls, procurement standards, and award/subaward terms and conditions. Prepare timely, accurate, and compliant program reports for internal leadership and external funders.
  • Work closely with the Grants Finance & Compliance Manager to ensure programmatic data is integrated with financial reports to provide a holistic view of grant performance.
  • Manage the planning, delivery, and follow-up for key public events, including the maintenance of an integrated events calendar and related communications.
  • Directly manage and document programmatic activities required to fulfill leverage commitments for assigned awards, working with external stakeholders and partners as necessary.

This is a grant-funded and term-limited staff position (not a contract role), funded through December 31, 2027. We are happy to discuss what this means with candidates.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Three plus (3+) years of direct experience managing multi-stakeholder projects or teams.
  • Very strong organizational skills with a proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and complex workflows with high attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a track record of identifying and working with others to solve complex operational or relational problems.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and extended engagement with relevant constituency/ies and subject matter area(s).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 and at least one relevant project management or business analytics software. Direct experience with software integration or workflow automation strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the ATS mission and the ability to work effectively and deliver results in a collaborative and consensus-driven environment.
  • Applicant must be currently authorized to work in the United States. Ashland University will not sponsor or take over sponsorship for an employment visa.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing similar grants or stakeholders preferred.
