Job description

The Ocean Community YMCA now has part-time opportunities at the Welcome Center at the Westerly-Pawcatuck branch. Available hours include 5am-9am and 5pm-9pm daily.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $16.25 per hour.

The Welcome Center Staff Member is the first point of contact for members and guests, helping to create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment that reflects the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. This role ensures excellent customer service, handles membership-related tasks, and supports safe and smooth daily operations.

**** Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet members and guests with warmth and professionalism
  • Assist with membership inquiries, registrations, and check-ins
  • Answer phone calls and provide accurate information about YMCA programs and services
  • Handle cash and credit card transactions
  • Maintain a clean and organized Welcome Center area
  • Enforce YMCA policies in a respectful and consistent manner
  • Respond to member concerns or incidents, escalating issues when necessary
  • Support program and facility staff by communicating member needs and scheduling updates

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office and membership software experience is a plus)
  • Reliable and punctual with strong attention to detail
  • Current CPR certification or willing to obtain (YMCA will train)
