The Role…
We are seeking a dynamic Banquet Captain to join our team who also resides in the Washington DC Ward 1 Area. If hired, be prepared to receive a Ward 1 Resident Bonus of $300*.   A successful candidate will have a genuine passion for the hospitality industry and an entrepreneurial spirit.  This is a fast-moving business, so we are looking for the right individual to be autonomous and be able to pick up multiple tasks and projects at once. 
   
Our culture is pacey but supportive, so you must be able to work in synergy with your peers and the different departments around you. Being an active communicator who is a team player and detail-oriented is a must to ensure a uniquely brilliant service experience for our guests. 
 
A Banquet Captain is responsible for orchestrating the event experience, from set up to breakdown. Each guest that attends a private event at The LINE DC will be welcomed and acknowledged in a way that aligns with our culture of best-in-class service, and you will ensure that our standards are met and always maintained. With a combination of passion for the job and the right communication with other departments, you are responsible for making the guest experience more than memorable.  
 
Because of the fluctuating demands of the company’s operation, it may be necessary that each employee performs a multitude of different functions; therefore, as an essential part of your position, you will be expected to help others when the occasion arises, just as other employee is expected to help you. Accordingly, you may be expected to perform other tasks as needed or as directed.
 
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  1. Greet every guest with a smile and maintain eye contact
  2. Must be courteous and gracious, always maintaining a professional demeanor
  3. Establish and maintain good communications and teamwork with fellow colleagues and other departments within the hotel 
  4. Offer guests an enjoyable experience that conforms to the LINE’s standards of excellence, professionalism and friendliness
  5. Demonstrate expert understanding and knowledge of the sequence of service, following this sequence for every guest
  6. Coordinate set up of event and ensure accuracy of set up in accordance with pre-determined packages
  7. Ensure all furniture in event area is clean and arranged properly
  8. Help set up and break down event equipment
  9. Ensure that all public areas are neat and clean
  10. Inspect banquet areas at end of function to ensure all equipment is returned to its proper area and all areas are clean 
  11. Plan opening/closing assignments for serving team
  12. Create floor plan making sure each event has a specific server
  13. Know the menu for each function served and be able to explain the major ingredients and preparation method for each item
  14. Read, understand and execute Event Orders to ensure safe, efficient event set up and break down
  15. Complete prep and side work efficiently so focused attention during the event can be given fully to guest care
  16. Greet host of event and review event order to ensure accuracy of guest expectations
  17. Introducing host to assigned wait staff and review event order to ensure accuracy
  18. Possess expert knowledge of all food and beverage aspects of the event 
  19. Serve food and beverages to guests, courteously and efficiently 
  20. Maintain cleanliness of event work area and equipment
  21. Attend all pre-function meetings required to ensure events flow smoothly 
  22. Service all aspects of the banquet operation in accordance with all departmental and hotel standards
  23. Take ownership of all service issues brought to your attention by guests 
  24. Maintain an increased awareness of safety issues throughout the hotel
  25. Participate in scheduled departmental and administrative meetings as requested
  26.  Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, memos and verbal instructions
  27.  Be familiar with all safety and emergency procedures including OSHA requirements 
Knowledge, Requirements and Skills

1.     High-School diploma or GED required 
  1. Two-year hotel event or related experience preferred
  2. Knowledge of all food and beverage aspects of the event, company culture and history
  3. Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays
  4. Excellent reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English Language          
  5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  6. Ability to multitask; excellent communication skills
  7. Able to handle a large volume of guest interactions in an efficient and courteous manner
  8. Work well under pressure, requires being a team player 
Working Conditions/Environment

1.     The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
2.     The person who has this responsibility may have to lift up to 50lbs on a daily basis
3.     The person having this position may have to sit for one (1) hour, stand and/or walk, push, kneel, bend, balance, squat, reach and stretch for eight (8) hours per day
