YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region

Overview: 

The Basketball Referee is responsible for officiating YMCA youth basketball games for participants ages 10–18 while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Officials help create a safe, positive, and fun environment for players, coaches, and spectators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Officiate youth basketball games according to YMCA and league rules
  • Ensure player safety and enforce fair play during all games
  • Start and end games on schedule
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with coaches, players, and spectators
  • Manage game flow and maintain control of the court
  • Handle conflicts calmly and respectfully
  • Set up and clean up equipment as needed
  • Attend required trainings, meetings, and rule reviews
  • Represent the YMCA in a positive and professional manner
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and move continuously during games
  • Ability to run up and down the basketball court
  • Ability to lift and carry sports equipment up to 25 pounds
Schedule
  • Evening and Weekend availability required
  • Must be available Saturdays
  • Seasonal hours based on league schedules and gym availability

Pay: $20-25/hour

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of basketball rules and gameplay
  • Ability to work with youth athletes ages 10–18
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Reliable transportation and punctual attendance
  • Must be available to work Saturdays during the summer, fall, and winter sports seasons
  • Must be at least 19 years old
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous officiating experience preferred
  • Referee certification preferred
  • CPR/First Aid certification is a plus
