Church Pension Group (CPG) is a financial services organization that serves the Episcopal Church, located in Midtown Manhattan. CPG was founded in 1917 to provide pension benefits to eligible clergy of the Episcopal Church. Since then, its mission has expanded to include life and disability insurance, health benefits, property & casualty insurance, and publishing.
The Director Enterprise Architect is expected to act as the bridge between business intent and technical implementation, translating business intent into architectural choices and translating architectural constraints back to the business to support informed decision-making. The role is to ensure that the respective business, application, and data align with CPG's business, technology, and governance strategies, policies, and standards. As a thought leader, the Dir EA is responsible for providing guidance, principles, and best practices for designing, selecting, building, configuring, and deploying business capabilities through application and technology solutions. The role is responsible for translating business strategy into technical architecture and solutions, by creating, communicating, and improving key requirements and models that describe CPG's future state and enable its evolution, considering the organization's complex legal and regulatory needs. To be effective in this role, the Director Enterprise Architect is expected to build strong rapport with CPG's ITS Staff, BU and CU leaders, as well as the Executive Leadership Team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Lead the translation of business priorities into architectures and strategies to enable delivery of optimal solutions.
  • Ensure that architectural solutions are business-appropriate and long-term sustainable.
  • Provide architectural guidance to development teams working on applications, systems, and platforms.
  • Create and maintain architectural diagrams and related documentation.
  • Hands-on capability to define, scope, and build proof-of-concept implementations.
  • Help define the application landscape and enabling technologies.
  • Develop and maintain a pragmatic target architecture.
  • Support the design and maturation of CPG's AI governance framework and implementation.
  • Assess AI and other emerging technologies and recommend adoption where they can be leveraged to deliver business value in pursuit of CPG's goals.
  • Set and maintain a set of key IT architectural principles and standards for the enterprise.
  • In collaboration with Data Architect, TSAs, and Engineers, ensure alignment of application selection, implementation, and development with architectural principles and standards.
  • Define measurable success and failure criteria for tool, product, and process changes.
  • In collaboration with the VMO, drive continuous rationalization across CPG's application and technology portfolio to eliminate inefficiencies and duplication.
  • Review solution architectures based on established enterprise application strategy.
  • Work with key members of the ITS management team to define and drive technical strategy and architectural direction for various applications and systems.
  • Communicate system solutions, recommend approaches, and support project teams through the deployment of the solutions.
  • Guide the design of reusable technology solution components and patterns.
  • Effective performance of the essential functions of this position requires regular in-person, on-site interaction with colleagues, both for purposes of relationship building and meaningful collaboration.

  • Solid understanding of application architecture, integration patterns, data concepts, cloud fundamentals, and AI.
  • Proven track record of translating business strategy and requirements into optimal technical architecture.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills.
  • Must have a strong business architecture perspective.
  • Strong understanding of application design principles, and demonstrable use of those principles in application architecture.
  • Knowledge of application design patterns, data modeling, service-oriented integration, and business intelligence domains.
  • Experience in architecting and designing scalable, secure, high performing, and sustainable business systems.
  • Experience leading solution architecture and design sessions with members of applications and technology teams.
  • Experience with transactional applications in industries such as benefits, financial, and/or healthcare is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in interacting and negotiating with business stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven track record of influencing without authority.
  • Excellent communication skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • BA/BS preferred. Combination of work and experience considered
  • 10+ years of experience in development, solution, and application or enterprise architecture roles.
  • Experience in architecting and designing scalable, secure, high-performing, and sustainable business systems.
  • Experience leading solution architecture and design sessions with members of applications and technology teams.
  • Experience with transactional applications in industries such as benefits, financial, and/or healthcare.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Extensive use of a computer keyboard is a demand of the position to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Currently, hybrid work environment, which requires working in CPG's office Tuesdays through Thursdays and flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Salary Range: $170,000- $195,000
