Job Summary
The Testing Specialist has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, assisting the Director of Testing with the daily operations of the Student Success Center and Testing Center. This position provides testing services to students, faculty, staff, and community members while ensuring all examinations are administered in accordance with institutional policies and testing vendor requirements. The Testing Specialist assists with maintaining a secure testing environment, providing exceptional customer service, supporting multiple testing programs, and contributing to the overall success of the Testing Center. This position requires the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while managing multiple priorities, frequent interruptions, and heavy student traffic. The Testing Specialist must maintain professionalism, accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail while providing excellent customer service.This is a full-time position that reports to LSCPA's Student Success Center.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director of Testing with the daily administration and operation of the Student Success Center and Testing Center.
  • Support testing operations at Lamar State College Port Arthur, the Deep East Texas College & Career Academy in Jasper, the TSUS Polk County Center, and other designated testing locations as assigned.
  • Administer and proctor a variety of examinations, including TSIA2, HESI (RN and LVN), Pearson VUE, GED, CLEP, departmental exams, accommodated testing, and other approved assessments.
  • Ensure all examinations are administered in compliance with institutional policies, testing vendor regulations, and security procedures.
  • Verify candidate identification, eligibility, and required documentation prior to testing.
  • Monitor testing sessions to maintain the integrity and security of examinations while documenting and reporting any testing irregularities or security violations.
  • Prepare testing rooms, computers, testing materials, and software prior to each testing session.
  • Assist students with scheduling appointments, testing registration, check-in procedures, and general testing questions.
  • Check students in and out of the Testing Center while maintaining accurate testing records and documentation.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community members in person, by telephone, email, and other communication platforms.
  • Assist with troubleshooting computer hardware, software, internet connectivity, and testing platform issues while coordinating with Information Technology when necessary.
  • Assist with uploading, verifying, and maintaining testing records in Banner and other testing management systems.
  • Coordinate and assist with testing accommodations for students approved through Disability Services by ensuring accommodations are implemented in accordance with institutional guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and comply with FERPA, institutional policies, and testing vendor requirements.
  • Assist with inventory management by monitoring testing supplies, materials, equipment, and testing resources, notifying the Director of Testing when replenishment is needed.
  • Support outreach events, orientation programs, recruiting activities, and other campus initiatives by promoting Testing Center services.
  • Assist with collecting testing statistics, maintaining operational records, and preparing reports as requested.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, secure, and professional testing environment.
  • Effectively manage heavy student traffic while maintaining efficiency, professionalism, and excellent customer service during peak testing periods.
  • Frequently move throughout the Testing Center to monitor multiple testing rooms, assist students, resolve testing concerns, and maintain testing security.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including extended evening hours and Saturdays, based on the operational needs of the Testing Center.
  • Cross-train in multiple testing platforms and procedures to ensure continuity of services and operational support.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and a student-centered approach while representing the Student Success Center and Lamar State College Port Arthur.
  • Comply with campus policies and procedures.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • One (1) year of experience in higher education, testing services, administrative support, customer service, or a related field preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.

  • Bachelor's degree

Supplemental Information
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods; frequently walk throughout the Student Success Center, Testing Center, and campus facilities; move between testing rooms to monitor exams; assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors; bend, reach, stoop, and occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
The position requires frequent movement throughout the day, including monitoring multiple testing rooms, responding to student needs, resolving testing issues, assisting with check-in and check-out procedures, and maintaining testing security. The employee must be able to work effectively in a high-volume environment with continuous student traffic while multitasking and maintaining a professional demeanor.
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment. Frequent client/customer contact.
Work Hours:
Monday - Friday; 40 hours per week. Occasional evenings and weekends.
