Job description

Consolidated Engineering Laboratories (CEL) is a leader in providing quality materials testing and construction inspection services. CEL is a union firm with its corporate headquarters located in San Ramon, CA and has full-service facilities in Northern California, Hawaii, and Utah.

We are seeking a UT Materials Technician 1 (MT1 to join our Salt Lake City, UT team! Come join us!

Candidate will provide QA/QC services for contractors, subcontractors, and owners of the project. The QA/QC services will primarily consist of soil density testing, concrete sampling, and asphalt density testing are completed in accordance with project plans and communications. Work hours primarily occur between 7:00am to 5:00pm but may also occur for swing and night shifts.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform concrete sampling and soil and asphalt density testing in accordance with project plans and specifications

  • Sample soil and asphalt for transportation to our laboratory for sample testing and analysis

  • Review construction documents, mix designs, density requirements to ensure compliance.

  • Document testing/sampling activities and prepare detailed daily field reports.

  • Identify deficiencies or non-compliant work and communicate findings to contractors, engineers, and project managers.

  • Conduct follow-up testing services to confirm corrective actions have been completed.

  • Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation meets regulatory requirements.

Minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.

  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

  • Prefer candidate with 2+ years' experience in the testing and inspection industry

  • Obtained ACI 1 certification, nuke gauge certification

Technical requirements:

  • Strong written and verbal communication

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple testing assignments

  • Ability to pay attention to detail and good have observational skills

  • Reasonable understanding of the construction and testing and inspection industries

Other miscellaneous qualities:

  • Ability to travel- Less than <5 percent

  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and access elevated work sites

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Ability to work occasionally work evening or night shifts

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.

  • WAQTC certifications a plus.
