Job description

Lead Medical Technologist – Blood Bank

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Medical Technologist – Blood Bank to support and oversee daily operations within a high-complexity transfusion services laboratory. This role is ideal for an experienced professional who thrives in a leadership capacity while maintaining hands-on involvement in testing, quality, and staff development. The Lead Technologist will ensure accurate, timely testing and compliance with all regulatory standards while serving as a key resource for the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and oversee complex blood bank testing, including compatibility testing, antibody identification, and transfusion support
  • Serve as a technical expert and resource for blood bank operations, troubleshooting complex serologic cases
  • Lead, train, and mentor laboratory staff; assist with scheduling and performance oversight
  • Review, verify, and release patient results with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, and all applicable regulatory and safety standards
  • Oversee quality control, proficiency testing, and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation
  • Assist with validation, verification, and implementation of new methods, instrumentation, and procedures
  • Collaborate with laboratory leadership to support process improvements, workflow optimization, and operational goals
  • Maintain proper documentation and adherence to laboratory policies and procedures

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree with completion of a NAACLS-accredited MLS/CLS program OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related science

Experience:

  • 3 years of relevant laboratory experience with MLS/CLS degree OR
  • 5 years of relevant laboratory experience with a science degree

Licensure/Certification:

  • MT or categorical certification (ASCP or equivalent) required

Compensation & Benefits:

Starting Pay: $36.00/hour (final compensation based on experience and qualifications)
