Job Description:

The Social Media Manager plays a key role in the growth and success of the Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter accounts for Bon Appetit and Epicurious, as well as any emerging platforms the brands expand onto.

The Social Media Manager has a keen understanding of social strategy and the ability to innovate and iterate across platforms. They should have deep knowledge of and passion for cooking and food and the ways they intersect with all aspects of life, news, and culture. This role reports to the Director of Social Media and collaborates closely with the editorial team on social content strategy. This role is based in New York and is in-office four days a week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Project manages and executes social strategies (ranging from day-to-day posts to tentpoles) in collaboration with the Director of Social Media, audience development team members, and editorial leadership.

  • Produces and captures social-first content for Bon Appetit and Epicurious.

  • Pitches and creates social storytelling for news topics.

  • Leads content promotion strategy for assigned stories and manages asset creation for articles, recipes, and more.

  • Supports relationship management with external creators, editors, and production partners as needed.

  • Handles day-to-day scheduling, posting, and general editorial calendar management, including execution of social video posting across platforms.

  • Works with consumer revenue, consumer marketing, and other cross-departmental stakeholders on subscription acquisition and retention strategies across social channels.

  • Works with commercial revenue and other cross-departmental stakeholders to execute sponsored campaigns.

  • Handles and contributes to recurring social reporting, including regular communication of learnings and insights to the editorial team.

  • Collaborates with the editorial team on framing recipes and stories for social promotion.

  • Works with social experts across Conde Nast on knowledge sharing and distribution of new social strategies.

  • Assists with training and mentoring other members of the editorial team to produce their own social content.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong editorial judgment, writing, and reporting skills

  • Extremely organized, detail-oriented, and able to adhere to tight deadlines

  • Data-driven ideator, writer, editor, and curator

  • Clear communicator; takes initiative to align with people across departments (Art, Photo, Test Kitchen, Social, Audience Development) and with freelancers/outside contributors

  • Strong culinary knowledge and technique; professional cooking/baking experience not required but a plus

  • Knowledge of potential writers and story leads; proactive about identifying reliable sources and ensuring factual accuracy

  • Curious about and engaged with online culture and trends

  • 3-5 years experience in journalism, writing, or related fields, preferably on an editorial team within food media

  • Knowledge of digital CMSes, Figma, Dash Social, project management tools (e.g., AirTable), and K4

The expected base salary range for this position is from $80,000-$90,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.

In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates may also be eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation.
