Job description

Our Marine organization is a trusted provider of innovative solutions for the worldwide boating and boat building industry, and we recently expanded our scope to lead the boating industry into an electrified future. Dometic has won numerous NMMA Innovation Awards over the years, and we are always striving for new ways to make boating easier, safer, and more enjoyable.
Dometic Marine's facility in Sparta, TN produces roto-molded fuel and ballast tanks and other roto-molded products for industrial applications. The site also manufactures select marine furniture, aluminum tanks, blow-molded portable tanks, and sanitation systems.
We are on a journey of continuous growth - now looking for our next star - a passionate Test Engineer. This position reports to the Engineering Manager and will work in Sparta, TN.
About the position
As Test Engineer of the Sparta team, you will be involved in testing and validating mechanical and electronic products to ensure they meet performance and application requirements. It involves developing test plans, conducting in-house and external testing, analyzing results, and supporting product development. The position also partners with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to resolve issues, maintain test equipment and documentation, and ensure a safe, well-managed lab environment.
Your Main Responsibilities
  • Working with Engineering, develops and executes test plans to evaluate product suitability to application, and follows with data summarization and reporting.
  • Working with Engineering, develops, specifies, constructs and/or purchases test platforms to evaluate product and component performance to specification requirements.
  • Work involves testing product to mechanical and electrical limits, and resistance to environmental and chemical exposures.
  • Coordinates and negotiates external testing as appropriate. Confers with vendors on management and supervision of outside testing. Evaluates and reviews documentation of outside testing.
  • Performs frequent in-house lab and infrequent field testing of mechanical and electronic products including all SeaStar Solutions Mechanical product lines.
  • Works closely with engineering and quality teams to ensure product suitability to application is met through front end evaluation of new and improved products
  • Provides support to Product Management with assistance in product development and the Product Extension processes
  • Recommends purchase of testing equipment, tools and consumables.
  • Prepares, maintains, processes and approves technical documentation on test procedures.
  • Performs annual standard products testing, reporting and analysis
  • Support manufacturing and manufacturing engineering with production issues
  • Work with maintenance to ensure proper operation of test equipment
  • Work with quality department to maintain certification of test equipment
  • Maintain stock of expendable materials and tooling in the lab
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment

Skills & Requirements
A suitable background would be a solid experience within manufacturing and design engineering as well as the following qualifications and experiences:
  • BS Degree, in a technical field
  • Strong experience in test and validation performance
  • Strong written and verbal communications and presentation skills
  • GD&T experience/understanding
  • Proficiency in Solidworks or similar CAD software.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office programs including: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint; and, the ability to learn other applications quickly.
  • Familiar with electronic instrumentation/sensors & test equipment.
  • Familiar with safety regulations (CSA, CE and other regulatory requirements).
  • Apply industry standards such as SAE, ASTM, ISO; familiarity with ISO9001 requirements.
  • Familiarity with QFD, Design and Process FMEAs.
  • Mechanical design, verification, validation, launch and support of products and components.
  • Approved mechanical design and test requirements documentation, test reports, and reports for customers on design and test results.
  • Self-starter and "Can do" attitude a must!
