Job description

What to Expect We are seeking a multi-faceted Mechanical Engineer who will be responsible for all aspects of identifying, analyzing, root causing, developing/designing and implementing countermeasures and reporting on issues affecting various vehicle systems like Exteriors, Interiors, Lights, Body, IP, etc. The Fleet Root Causing Engineering team's mission is to improve customer experience of Tesla products by eliminating fleet issues, in collaboration with a large cross-section of other engineering teams. Engineers on the team are responsible for one or more vehicle systems for Model S/X/3/Y, Cybertruck, Semi and future programs.

This is a very hands-on individual contributor role with duties focused on failure analysis and root cause activities. To be effective, the Fleet Root Causing Engineer will either need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of these components and systems and the tools and equipment used in their design and manufacture or be a quick learning generalist with sufficiently relevant background. The Engineer will work with other Engineering teams to quickly mitigate and implement countermeasures of field issues to improve quality, reliability, and durability of the products. What You'll Do * Monitor product field performance * Identify trending issues * Prioritize based on severity, occurrence, or cost of each failure mode * Detailed failure analysis, identifying root-cause of problems * Apply knowledge of engineering and manufacturing to drive containment and corrective action implementation into production, design, supplier, firmware * Communicate field performance of the engineering system, gather buy-in from engineering peers and leadership on improvement priorities and urgency * Closely work with, among others, a multitude of Tesla Engineering Teams, International Production Teams, International Service Teams, and Tesla's in-house FA lab to drive resolution * Participate in continuous improvement activities and take preventive action * Implement lessons learned from previous field issues into the design process * Provide upfront feedback by participating in design reviews to ensure product performance, reliability, and manufacturability issues are identified and risks mitigated What You'll Bring * Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant industry experience * Outstanding mastery of engineering and physics fundamentals * A passion for Tesla's mission, root causing, and bug fixing are a must * Track record of enjoying to "repair stuff", tinkering and experimenting in your free time.
