Job Summary
The Construction Manager is responsible for the safe, timely, and cost-effective execution of renewable energy projects across TerraForm Power's portfolio, including solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems. This role manages projects from Notice to Proceed (NTP) through commissioning and turnover to Operations, ensuring delivery aligns with project objectives, contractual commitments, and company standards.
Reporting to the VP of Construction, the Construction Manager will oversee EPC contractors, vendors, consultants, utilities, and other stakeholders while managing multiple projects across the United States.
Key Responsibilities
  • Project Execution
    • Lead construction execution for utility-scale solar, wind, and BESS projects.
    • Manage projects from mobilization through commercial operation and turnover.
    • Monitor scope, schedule, budget, quality, and contractor performance.
    • Identify and resolve project risks, field issues, and schedule impacts.
  • Contractor & Stakeholder Management
    • Manage EPC contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and equipment suppliers.
    • Coordinate with internal teams including Development, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and Operations.
    • Serve as TerraForm Power's primary construction representative with contractors, utilities, landowners, and regulatory agencies.
  • Cost & Schedule Management
    • Track project budgets, forecasts, and cost performance.
    • Review change orders, contractor payment applications, and project expenditures.
    • Monitor critical path schedules and implement recovery plans when necessary.
    • Provide regular project status updates to leadership.
  • Safety & Quality
    • Promote and uphold TerraForm Power's commitment to a strong safety culture.
    • Ensure compliance with company, OSHA, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
    • Monitor construction quality and ensure adherence to project specifications and standards.
  • Commissioning & Project Closeout
    • Support commissioning, testing, energization, and commercial operation activities.
    • Coordinate turnover documentation, punch list completion, and project closeout.
    • Ensure a successful transition to Operations and Asset Management teams.

Qualifications
  • Required
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred. Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.
    • 5+ years of construction management experience in renewable energy, power generation, utility, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
    • Experience managing contractors, schedules, budgets, and project execution activities.
    • Strong understanding of construction methods, contract administration, and project controls.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
    • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
    • Full-time onsite position with travel home every three weeks.

  • Preferred
    • Experience with utility-scale solar, wind, and/or battery energy storage projects.
    • Experience managing EPC contracts and large construction projects.
    • PMP, CCM, or Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
    • Familiarity with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Procore, or similar project management tools.
