What is a Temporary Web Developer job?

A Temporary Web Developer job is a short-term position where a developer is hired to create, update, or maintain websites and web applications. These roles are often project-based and may last from a few weeks to several months. Employers hire temporary web developers to meet deadlines, handle increased workloads, or fill in for permanent employees. This role requires proficiency in web development technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and various frameworks or CMS platforms. Temporary web developers may work on-site or remotely, depending on the company's needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Temporary Web Developer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Web Developer, you need proficiency in front-end and/or back-end web development languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular, often alongside a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), content management systems like WordPress, and sometimes certifications in web development or related technologies are highly valued. Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and effective communication set outstanding candidates apart, especially in short-term contract roles. These competencies enable quick integration into new teams, efficient project delivery, and effective contribution to an organization’s web projects on tight deadlines.

What types of projects or tasks can I expect as a Temporary Web Developer?

As a Temporary Web Developer, you will often be tasked with assisting on website launches or redesigns, fixing bugs, developing new site features, or performing maintenance on existing web applications. Projects may vary in size and scope, ranging from updating front-end interfaces to integrating APIs or improving website performance. You'll likely work closely with designers, project managers, and other developers to meet specific project goals within tight timelines. The role requires flexibility and the ability to contribute effectively, sometimes picking up work mid-project or adapting quickly to different codebases and workflows. This fast-paced, project-based environment offers valuable experience and opportunities to expand your technical skill set.

Is 40 too old to become a web developer?

Age is not a barrier to becoming a web developer. Many successful developers start later in life, and skills such as coding languages, problem-solving, and continuous learning are more important than age. Employers value experience and adaptability, making it possible to enter the field at any age with dedication and training.

What jobs make $3,000 a month without a degree?

A temporary web developer can earn around $3,000 a month through freelance projects, contract work, or part-time roles that require strong coding skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Building a portfolio and gaining experience with platforms like Upwork or Fiverr can help achieve this income level without a formal degree.

Department of Art

College of Environmental Design

The Department of Art at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for its Part-Time Lecturer pool in Visual Communication Design for part-time teaching appointments.

About Cal Poly Pomona

Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 22-campus California State University system and among 12 such institutions nationwide. Since its founding in 1938, Cal Poly Pomona students participate in an integrative experiential learning education that is inclusive, relevant, and values diverse perspectives and experiences. With a variety of degree programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, engineering, and professional disciplines, the university is well known for its learn- by-doing approach and Teacher Scholar Model.

The university is noted for its scenic and historic 1,400-acre campus, which was once the winter ranch of cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg. We acknowledge that Cal Poly Pomona resides on the territorial and homelands of the Tongva and Tataavium people who are the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar. The university's nearly 30,000 students are taught and mentored by the campus's more than 1,400 faculty as part of 54 baccalaureate and 29 master's degree programs, 11 credential and certificate programs, and a doctorate in educational leadership.

About the College of Environmental Design

The College of Environmental Design (ENV) at Cal Poly Pomona connects people, places, and the environments in which we live, work, and play. A leader in design excellence, ENV offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban and regional planning; undergraduate degrees in art history and visual communication design; and a graduate degree in regenerative studies. ENV also manages the University's two professional galleries, the W. Keith & Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery and the Don B. Huntley Gallery, and stewards the Neutra VDL House, a designated National Historic Landmark. Drawing on the rich creative economy and cultural capital of Southern California, ENV prepares students to shape the future of the built and natural environments with resiliency, inclusivity, and justice.

About the Department of Art

The Department of Art at Cal Poly Pomona is home to two distinctive programs within the College of Environmental Design: Art History and Visual Communication Design. Recognized in 2020 as one of the Top 10 Graphic Design Schools and Colleges in California by Animation Career Review, the BFA in Visual Communication Design is one of the only such programs in the California State University system. Situated within a polytechnic university and near the creative hub of Los Angeles, our department challenges students to solve real-world communication problems through design. Faculty support active student organizations such as the AIGA Cal Poly Pomona chapter, and our graduates go on to careers in branding, UX/UI design, motion graphics, illustration, and more. We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to preparing the next generation of designers to create meaningful, ethical, and culturally responsive work.
