About this Job 19/91836/EI1-E5/06.11.26-MV Engineer Intern 1 - Engineer 5 Section 19 - Louisiana Transportation Research Center For over 30 years, the staff of Louisiana Transportation Research Center (LTRC) has strived to merge resources of state government and universities to help identify, develop, and implement new technology to improve the state's transportation system. Since its creation by the legislature in 1986, LTRC has grown to national prominence through its efforts to improve transportation systems in Louisiana. The center conducts short-term and long-term research and provides technology assistance, engineering training and continuing education, technology transfer, and problem-solving services to DOTD and others in the transportation community

LTRC's goal is to merge the resources of state government and universities to identify, develop, and implement new technology to improve the state's transportation system. About this Position: Under the supervisor of an Engineer 6, Geotechnical Research Manager, this position is responsible for implementing highly technical research in the area of geotechnical engineering. This program encompasses a full spectrum of transportation technology and operations incorporating widely diverse infrastructure areas ranging from geotechnical design, geotechnical foundation and earthwork requirements, conducting and supervising laboratory and field testing, collecting and summarizing laboratory and field data.

Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: The job duties and responsibilities may vary depending on the level at which the incumbent is hired

The job duties and responsibilities listed below are for the Engineer 5 position and represent the duties and responsibilities that the incumbent will be expected to fulfill at the end of the training series. Conducts the unit's federal and state funded research program in the area of expertise; identifies problems, develops research programs, writes proposals, conducts and supervises laboratory and field testing, collects and summarizes laboratory and field data; conducts research and disseminates research findings through publications, technical summaries and the presentation of research papers; develops and conducts department-wide implementation programs based on research findings to include sampling and testing procedures, specifications and to improve department operations, methods and procedures through workshops, seminars and other training sessions; evaluates new products and techniques to optimize the use of high quality materials and processes; and provides indirect supervision and training to staff. Provides technical engineering assistance to officials within and outside of the department using information comprised of state-of-the-art technology.

Participates in coordinated research studies and activities at the national level cooperating with university researchers, state and federal agencies, and industry. Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency-wide permanent status employees); by temporary job appointment; or by detail to special duty. Career Progression: This position is in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and is being posted at the following levels: Engineer Intern 1, Engineer Intern 2, Engineer 3, Engineer 4, and Engineer 5.

The maximum annual salary for the Engineer 5 is $126,256.00.
