Job description

Event Programming Associate
Title: Event Programming Associate
Employment Type: Temporary/ Seasonal
Payrate: $17.00/hr 
Location: Bronx Zoo
Reports To: Full-Time Management Staff
Schedule: Must be able to work weekends and 2-5 days per week including weekends and including some holidays. Number of scheduled days per week will vary throughout the season.
Hours: Schedule subject to change based on event, daytime event hours are typically 9:00am - 5:30pm; Winter Holiday Event hours 3:00pm - 10:00pm. Some events start as early as 6:00am, and others end as late as 1:00am, must be willing to be flexible. Hours dependent on weather and guest attendance as well as special events.
Position Summary
Event Programming Associate for the 2026 Season is responsible for setting up and running events as part of a team. Large, single-day events take place in April and June, daily programming taking place from May through September, and weekend and evening programming taking place through the fall and winter. Associates are instrumental in setting up the event program needs, and must be able to take direction and follow a list of tasks to complete for set up. Associates will also be responsible for day-of event operations, including escorting performers, managing crowds & line queues, cleaning and maintain event exhibit areas, managing crafts and activities areas, monitoring guest interactions at mural and photobooth areas, and more. Associates must be comfortable talking to guests, providing directions, maintaining cleanliness and order in all event spaces, and performing crowd control duties among other responsibilities. This position takes place outdoors, associates must be comfortable working in all elements and performing physical labor including but not limited to moving and setting up tables, tents, chairs, benches, sandbags, stage equipment, and more. In addition to event needs, Associates may be asked to assist the Rides department with daily or special event functions.
Associates must be comfortable being able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, being able to lift heavy objects and move materials throughout the zoo, assisting with setting up and breaking down event areas, communicating in a professional manner with guests, coworkers, and vendors, providing assistance to guests to ensure they have a memorable experience at the zoo, assisting with performance components of activities, following directions well and taking initiative to make sure tasks are completed sufficiently, and working flexible hours. The Associate will facilitate these activities at the Bronx Zoo. This position will extend until early February.
Additional events include Run for the Wild (April), Brew at the Zoo (June), Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood at the Bronx Zoo (May-September) Member's Mornings and Evenings (July), Boo at the Zoo, and Holiday Lights.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
      Lifting heavy objects and moving event items throughout the zoo
      Following a list of tasks and completing them independently or with a team
      Enforcing all safety policies for each area
      Assisting with hands-on activities
      Assisting vendors, performers, and contractors with all needs
      Communicating with guests in a professional manner
      Working outdoors in all weather conditions both cold and hot for extended periods of time
      Setting up and breaking down materials at beginning and end of day and night programming
      Crowd management 
      Adapt easily to changing circumstances in a busy work environment
      May be required to assist in other special events activities including assisting in performance areas
