Job description

Overview

UIC Sanatu is seeking a DBA Welder/Ironworker to perform skilled craft work on commercial construction projects. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting plans and specifications, positioning and securing iron or steel girders, columns, and structural components to form complete frameworks. Additional duties may include erecting metal storage tanks and assembling prefabricated metal buildings.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

  • Install structural and reinforcing iron and steel to form and support buildings and bridges.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and building plans to determine layout, dimensions, and materials.

  • Position, align, and secure structural metal components using cranes, hoists, and rigging equipment.

  • Weld and cut metal components as needed for installation.

  • Fabricate, assemble, and dismantle temporary structures and metal parts.

  • Verify alignment and fit of components, making adjustments as necessary.

  • Operate construction equipment such as forklifts, loaders, cranes, hoists, and other mechanized devices.

  • Load and unload materials used in construction or extraction.

  • Install insulation, gauges, electrical components, and safety equipment.

  • Inspect equipment, structures, and materials for quality and compliance.

  • Follow OSHA regulations and company safety procedures at all times.

  • Perform tasks independently with minimal supervision.

  • Work effectively in a team setting with supervisors, peers, and subcontractors.

  • Communicate clearly in person, in writing, by phone, or email.

  • Analyze and evaluate job information to identify problems and determine solutions.

  • Draft layouts and specify technical details for parts or equipment.

  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet project deadlines.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must have at least 5 years of ironwork experience.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Perform general physical activities, including prolonged standing for 2-3 hour intervals.

  • Use adequate vision and hearing to complete tasks safely and accurately.

  • Reach in all directions, handle and manipulate objects, and coordinate full body movements.

  • Walk, stand, twist, turn, crawl, kneel, and stoop as required by job tasks.

  • Work from heights greater than 8 feet while following all safety protocols.

  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including ANSI-approved safety footwear, safety glasses, face shields, welding helmet and gloves, hard hat, and fall protection equipment.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily performed outdoors.

  • Exposure to excessive heat (above 80F).

  • Exposure to dust, fumes, smoke, and gases.

  • High noise levels may occur at times.

  • Walking on uneven or rough surfaces.

  • Working on or around hazardous machinery.

  • Use of ladders, scaffolding, towers, and elevated surfaces ranging from 4 to 38 feet above ground.

  • Frequent use of stairs.
