Job description

Job Summary
A Research Lab Specialist Associate position is available in the laboratory of Drs. Bethany Moore and Xiaofeng Zhou, in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, Ml. The laboratory investigates the immunological mechanisms underlying long-COVID and pulmonary complications following hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT).
Please note: This position is term-limited to July 31, 2028, with the possibility of renewal based on need and available funding.
Responsibilities*
  • Maintain laboratory operations in collaboration with other team members, including animal census,
    routine animal tasks, reagent ordering and management, and waste disposal.
  • Actively contribute to the design, execution, and evaluation of research projects.
    Perform cell culture, animal procedures (including euthanasia and necropsy), and conduct molecular
    and biochemical assays.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data.
  • Present research progress at laboratory meetings.
  • Train users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques; explain and demonstrate technology
    capabilities, limitations, and outcomes.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Immunology, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in experimental mouse procedures, including euthanasia and necropsy, is mandatory.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a related field.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Master of Science degree in Microbiology and Immunology, or related fields.
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and persistence in completing tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
