Job description

Geotechnical - Soil Testing Lab Technician
LAB POSITION OVERVIEW:
Our client is a well-respected and established firm located in Albuquerque. You'll work in a small analytical laboratory, testing soil properties for multiple clients in government, environment, construction and engineering industries.
This is a technician level position of open duration. Responsibilities include measuring soil physics and geotechnical properties, as well as assembling testing equipment and monitoring research experiments. The job duties include a lot of moving soil samples and entering data. This is a physical job, mostly indoors in the lab.
You will be required to pass drug testing and pass a background check if offered the position. Our client may opt to hire permanently after a few months working as a contractor.
SKILLS, EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION:

  • An Associate degree or higher in an earth sciences area such as Geoscience, Geology, Environmental, Earth Sciences, Hydrology, Geophysics, Mineralogy, Volcanology, Forestry, Chemistry, Biology or experience in Civil / Structural Engineering with soil stability, or related scientific field is preferred.
  • Direct applicable experience in lieu of a science degree with related experience and minimum High School diploma / GED will also be considered.
  • Experienced working in a testing lab, field work, sampling and/or Quality Assurance is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in the application of basic math skills that will be used for laboratory testing and data interpretation.
  • Ability to read basic scientific equations and apply them to generated data.
  • Ability to read scientific procedures.
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel and Word and comfortable entering information into a computer.
  • Able to read fine increments on various measuring devices and electronic instrumentation accurately.
  • Able to read, record, accurately report, and interpret data in English as established by standard laboratory practices.
  • Prior experience with water and soil sampling or testing is preferred.
  • Demonstrated mechanical and electrical aptitude is a plus.


POSITION REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

  • Able to lift and carry 50 lb. 5-gallon buckets up to 10 ft. repeatedly around the lab.
  • Able to perform laboratory testing tasks while standing on a ladder at heights up to 4’ above the floor.
  • Work in a standing position for full work shift.
  • Perform repetitious physical movements continuously during a work shift, which include squatting and working on the floor.
