Job description

Are you passionate about creating innovative software solutions and leveraging technology to solve complex business challenges? As a Software Developer, you will design and develop new applications and system enhancements that support critical business operations. Working closely with stakeholders, you will analyze requirements to understand business processes, define technical solutions, and participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, code reviews, and technical documentation. You will also troubleshoot and resolve production issues through system analysis, code modifications, and functional testing.

Modern Woodmen of America is one of the nation’s largest fraternal benefit societies, with over $18 billion assets. Fraternals are unique membership organizations that pair the “member-owned” characteristic of a mutual insurance company with the “social mission” characteristic of a service organization. They unite individuals with common bonds, provide a variety of life insurance and investment products, and form one of the nation’s most effective volunteer networks.

Responsibilities:

  • Proficiency in object-oriented programming, relational databases, application design principles, documentation, and analysis.
  • Formulate system scope and objectives and modify applications through research.
  • Participate in developing and reviewing business and system requirements for accurate tech solutions.
  • Develop software code following established standards and guidelines.
  • Create technical documentation of software design and code base for QA and production support.
  • Perform unit testing to ensure requirements are met, functionality works, and errors are handled.
  • Review existing systems to improve efficiency and develop strategies for enhancement. Perform necessary systems analysis and functional testing.
  • Coordinate between departments for smooth procedure implementation.
  • Train users on new or updated systems.
  • Update Software Development Supervisor and Project Managers on progress and potential issues.
  • Stay updated on system processes and programming methodologies.

What we need:

  • Minimum Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Development, or a related field required, Bachelor’s preferred.
  • Software development, programming, or technical experience required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand business processes and translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Knowledge of software development principles, testing methodologies, and application support practices.
  • Ability to participate in all phases of the software development life cycle, including design, development, testing, code reviews and technical documentation.
  • Strond collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across teams and partner with user departments to deliver business solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of the following technologies preferred:
    • Visual Studio
    • Net
    • C#
    • React
    • Azure and/or AWS
    • SQL, HTML, CSS, Blazor and Javascript
    • Git, NServiceBus and COBOL experience a plus.

What we offer:

  • Pay: The annual pay range is $57k-$91k.  The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior software development work experience. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future employment-based sponsorship. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time, nor can we guarantee future sponsorship.
  • Work Arrangements: This is a full-time hybrid position: 37.5 hours per week (7.5 hours per day), Monday- Friday, with flexible start time between 7 a.m.-9 a.m. Hybrid positions work at least four days in office each week.  Employees beginning to work in a new hybrid role will be expected to work on-site (five days a week) during the initial training period which may be up to one year. Hybrid work arrangements are subject to change at any time based on business needs.
