On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Inspect, test, maintain, install, modify, and repair Low Voltage Electrical Building Systems
  • Troubleshoot LV Electrical Building Systems during standard and non-standard hours
  • Be able/available to work overtime on an as needed basis
  • As a condition of employment, Metal Trades positions are represented by the Metal Trades Council (MTC) and employees must pay monthly membership dues or agency fee
Qualifications We Require
  • Experience with Low Voltage Electrical Distribution systems
  • Conduct required periodic testing of systems and utilize a computerized database to maintain required records
  • Apply industry standard safety practices such as proper use and inspection of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and test equipment for confirmation of the de-energization of electrical circuits including but not limited to insulation resistance tester, digital multi-meter, and circuit tracers
  • Devise tests, fabricate assemblies, or troubleshoot, as necessary
  • Maintain records using a computerized database and keep work areas clean and orderly
  • Consult with other Tradespersons and provide direction to other employees as required
  • Lay out, install, modify, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain medium and high voltage electrical systems
  • Diagnose and correct malfunctions in complex electrical transmission and distribution systems and detect and mark all types of interior and exterior electrical utilities
  • Operate bucket truck and digger-derrick pole truck
  • Perform switching procedures and techniques; conduct high voltage testing procedures; and use cable splicing and HV termination techniques
  • Utilize industry-standard safety practices, techniques, and sequences for determining the de-energization of high voltage circuits; install and remove grounding clusters; demonstrate knowledge of test equipment to troubleshoot high voltage electrical circuits; collaborate with facilities/construction engineers to evaluate, plan, and coordinate utility spotting activities. Must have experience in the construction of HV equipment/systems and an understanding of the associated hazards involved
  • Possess working knowledge of SNL's high voltage electrical transmission and distribution systems and complete SNL's High Voltage Mentorship Program
  • Obtain mobile crane certification
  • Handle layout, installation, modification, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of specialized facilities, electrical fire alarm systems, intrusion alarm systems, inverters, emergency lights, overhead doors, vehicle gates, and building grounding and distribution systems including transfer switches and standby/emergency generator systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair communication systems, control and alarm systems, and associated computer equipment interfaces
  • Conduct thermographic scanning, diagnose and correct malfunctions in highly specialized electrical and electronic test equipment, and electromechanical circuits and devices associated with facility and process equipment and test equipment including infrared thermography, communications transmission system test equipment, and three-point ground resistivity meters
  • Work on complex electrical, electronic, and electromechanical systems, circuits, and devices associated with facility and process equipment
  • Identify and correct malfunctions in electrical systems, circuits, and components
  • Obtain and maintain DOE Q Clearance
  • Perform appropriate, auxiliary, or related duties in the general area of work activity necessary to accomplish the above
Qualifications We Desire
  • Requirements include completion of a 4-year State approved electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent
  • Typical experience includes minimum of 3-5 years as a fully qualified Electrical Tradesperson and can obtain a journeyman's license
  • The successful candidate must be able to work either independently, or as a member of a team. Leadership skills, and good communication skills (written and verbal) would be a plus
  • Punctuality, and a solid attendance record
  • Knowledge of how a Behavior Based Safety system functions works to help reduce injuries and provide a safer workplace
  • Active Department of Energy "L" or "Q" clearance
  • Ability to work overtime and be on-call
  • Knowledge of SNL's Low Voltage Electrical Distribution systems
