Pediatric ECMO Specialist Registered Nurse

Location: Houston, TX

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Pediatric ECMO Specialist Registered Nurse to join our team. This role delivers expert-level care to pediatric and NICU patients requiring ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) support. The specialist will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure safe, high-quality, and personalized care, aligned with clinical standards and best practices.

Must-Have Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

  • Minimum 2 years of prior ECMO Specialist experience

  • Previous clinical experience with pediatric or NICU populations

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Active Registered Nurse license in the State of Texas or eligible for temporary/compact licensure

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit or specialty

Experience:

  • RN I: Less than 1 year

  • RN II: 1 3 years

  • RN III: 3 10 years

  • RN IV: 10+ years

  • Prior ECMO and pediatric/NICU experience is essential

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver safe and effective care based on age-specific needs and unit competencies

  • Coordinate nursing care plans with an interdisciplinary team and participate in clinical decision-making

  • Use data, evidence, and standards of care to achieve desired patient outcomes

  • Develop and implement discharge or transfer plans in coordination with the care team

  • Engage in continuous process improvement, program evaluation, and patient experience enhancement

  • Follow regulatory requirements and Texas Board of Nursing standards

  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, including time, supply, and resource management

  • Foster personal and professional development through continuing education and mentorship

  • Act as a preceptor and resource for less experienced staff

  • Uphold organizational service standards and model compassionate, efficient care delivery

  • Perform other duties within the scope of practice and clinical competency as assigned
