Job description

DEDICATED TO STRENGTHENING THE HEALTH, SAFETY, AND INDEPENDENCE OF IDAHOANS
State Hospital South (SHS) - Syringa Chalet Nursing Facility is seeking a part time temporary Registered Nurse (RN) who is caring, loving, and has a passion for helping others. SHS is in beautiful Southeast Idaho, an area best known for Oregon Trail and Native American history, amazing fly fishing, towering mountain peaks with abundant wildlife and awe-inspiring geological sites. State Hospital South in Blackfoot provides psychiatric inpatient treatment and skilled nursing care for Idaho's adult citizens with the most serious and persistent mental illnesses. The hospital works in partnership with families and communities to enable clients to return to community living. State Hospital South includes 110 psychiatric adult beds and 42 skilled nursing beds. It also maintains a statewide program to restore the competency of criminal justice patients. The 42 skilled nursing beds in the Syringa Chalet Nursing Facility offer services to consumers with a history of behavioral or psychiatric illness.
This position is not eligible for telework.
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. Any applicant offered employment in this position at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test. In addition, successful candidates will be required to complete a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.
Temporary positions are limited to working 1,385 hours in a 12-month period for any one state agency. Employees are eligible for benefits if they work twenty (20) hours or more per week and the term of employment is expected to exceed five (5) continuous months.
This is an ongoing announcement which means at the time applicants apply, we may or may not have an opening. Those applicants that take and pass the exam to show they meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on the referral list. When a position becomes available, the hiring supervisor will then directly contact those applicants they wish to interview off the referral list.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
  • Performs practical nursing care or assists a registered nurse or physician in routine to complex situations in clinics, private homes, or state institutions.
  • Observes, records, and reports patients' treatment, care, symptoms, physical and mental condition, behavior, and progress.
  • Administers prescribed medications including intramuscular injections and observes for adverse reactions.
  • Performs treatments including change of sterile dressings, insertion of nasal gastric tubes, catheterizations, and removal of sutures.
  • Interviews patients to obtain health information and instructs and counsels patients regarding basic health needs. Teaches patients and their families the importance of proper diet, proper positioning, range-of-motion exercises, transfer techniques, and personal hygiene procedures.
  • Charts administered medications, symptoms, accidents, unusual behavior, doctors' visits, and observed side effects of drugs.
  • Orders lab and x-ray work under physician's orders.

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position.
