Job Description

The University of Notre Dame Operations, Events, and Safety (UOES) division is currently hiring for temporary Dish Crew Stewards within The Morris Inn within our campus Hospitality department. The UOES Division oversees the University's event management, hospitality, and customer service functions, while also supporting student life, academic initiatives, research activities, and annual milestone celebrations.

Dish Crew Steward

This entry-level position is perfect for individuals starting their journey in a professional kitchen environment. As a Dish Steward Crew Member, you'll develop foundational skills in kitchen sanitation, organization, and support, ensuring the smooth flow of operations. This position is intentionally structured with growth in mind. Individuals who demonstrate reliability, initiative, and strong communication skills will be well-positioned to take on increased responsibilities and potential leadership roles as the department evolves. Future opportunities may include deeper involvement in event logistics, equipment management, and front-of-house and back-of-house collaboration - skills essential for delivering elevated service standards and ensuring a seamless guest experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain the Champion Industries Model EUCCW8 dishwasher, ensuring proper washing, rinsing, and sanitizing procedures.
  • Keep the dish area clean and organized throughout your shift, adhering strictly to all cleaning and sanitation guidelines for food safety and health code compliance.
  • Pot & Pan Sink: Manually scrub and sanitize pots, pans, and kitchen tools.
  • Dirty Table & Loader: Scrape, sort, and efficiently load dirty dishes into the machine.
  • Clean Catch Side: Unload, inspect, and organize clean dishes for proper storage.
  • Clean Dish Restocking: Transport and restock clean dishes, glassware, and utensils to designated areas.
  • Utility Support (5th Man): Assist as needed, including emptying trash, cleaning tilts and kettles, spot sweeping/mopping, and restocking/sorting silverware.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Assisting culinary staff with light prep, plating, and food distribution for both plated and buffet-style service
  • Pulling and organizing equipment for events (e.g., chafers, platters, plates, etc.)
  • Sorting and staging serviceware for FOH event teams
  • Transporting hot/cold boxes to and from event spaces
  • Returning equipment to the dish room and ensuring it is cleaned and stored in its proper location
Qualifications
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented kitchen environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with an unwavering commitment to cleanliness and organization.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform tasks such as bending to clean floor drains and climbing equipment/ladders.
  • Highly dependable with a positive attitude and a proactive willingness to assist the team as needed.

Pay Rate: $17.50/hr
