Health/Life Safety and School Construction Program Reviewer (Principal Consultant #1818)

Duties

This position manages and supports health/life safety, school facilities, construction, maintenance, and related programs for Illinois schools. The position serves as a technical resource to districts and external stakeholders, develops training and policy guidance, and assists with program administration, regulatory oversight, and special projects. Limited travel will be required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyzes and processes documents related to the health/life safety program, including 10-year safety surveys and amendments.
  • Consults with architects and district administrators as necessary.
  • Develops training materials and conducts presentations and workshops on the health/life safety program, school construction programs, and other relevant topics.
  • Reviews, manages, and administers school maintenance, energy efficiency, school construction grant, and temporary relocation grant and loan programs.
  • Provides technical assistance to external stakeholders regarding health/life safety code requirements.
  • Maintains and updates web pages for the health/life safety and school construction programs.
  • Develops and reviews legislation and proposes administrative code updates in collaboration with regional superintendents and external stakeholders.
  • Verifies building conditions as part of the facility condemnation process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with coursework in Architecture or Engineering, or, Bachelor's degree plus five years of relevant professional experience. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)
  • Two years (in addition to education requirements) of relevant professional experience.
  • Working knowledge of ICC building codes.
  • Ability to read building plans.
  • Ability to read and interpret legislation, administrative rules, and building codes.
  • Ability to research building standards and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse stakeholders (school district officials, architects/engineers, contractors, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
  • International Code Council certification in areas such as plumbing, building, maintenance & housing, etc.

Anticipated Starting Salary Range: $64,322 - $81,284

Full Salary Range: $64,322 - $109,467

Office Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
