Job Overview
Campus Recreation at Yates Field House/Lifeguard monitors pool activities and ensures member safety. Lifeguards need to possess knowledge of rescue procedures and emergency medical procedures. To help prevent incidents and ensure safety, lifeguards must enforce all safety guidelines as outlined and remain alert throughout an entire shift. Additional job duties a lifeguard performs include preparing activity and incident reports and performing pool maintenance as needed.
Work Interactions
The Lifeguards position is integral to maintaining a safe aquatic environment for our students, faculty, staff and community members who use McCarthy pool. This position reports directly to the Associate Director for Aquatics and Risk Management, Aquatics coordinator and Recreation center supervisor when Director of Aquatics is not in the building.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Current Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard certification (to include CPR Professional Rescuer and First Aid)
  • Self-motivation
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Expected to attend at least two in-service trainings each year.

Pay Range
The projected hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $17.55 - $21.45. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
