Job description

Origin Mining Company operates the Mineral Park copper-molybdenum mine in Arizona and is focused on responsible, sustainable resource development. We aim to lead the U.S. copper industry through strong safety practices, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence. Our team is committed to doing things the right way—acting with integrity, supporting our communities, and creating long-term value. With a hands-on, technically driven approach, we are advancing both leach and concentrator operations to produce high-quality copper and molybdenum products.
Position Overview:
The Mine Operations Superintendent is a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing daily mining activities and supporting safe, efficient production. This field-based role focuses on coordinating crews, managing contractors, and ensuring work is executed to plan. The Superintendent supervises operators, maintains productivity, and reinforces a strong safety culture. The role requires practical experience in open pit mining, including drilling, blasting, and load-haul operations. It also supports short-term planning and clear communication across teams.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Oversee day-to-day mining operations, ensuring activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in line with plans
  • Supervise and support a team of operators, providing clear direction and performance feedback
  • Coordinate and manage contractors to ensure work is completed to required standards and timelines
  • Monitor and support drilling, blasting, and load-haul-dump operations
  • Assist with short-term planning, scheduling, and execution of operational work plans
  • Maintain a strong presence in the field (70–80% of time) to monitor progress and address issues in real time
  • Promote and enforce site safety standards and regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate with the Mine Operations Manager and other departments to resolve operational challenges
  • Participate in hiring processes, including interviewing and evaluating candidates
  • Track daily progress and contribute to operational reporting as required
Qualifications:
  • 5–7 years of mining operations experience, including leadership responsibilities
  • Proven experience in open pit mining (required)
  • Background in drilling and blasting and load-haul-dump operations
  • Engineering degree (mining or civil preferred)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
  • Experience supervising crews and coordinating contractors
  • Hands-on experience operating mining equipment (e.g., loaders, dozers, graders, drills) is an asset
  • Practical, team-oriented mindset with a strong focus on safety and operational support
Physical Demands:
To be eligible for this position, an individual must possess the following requirements to perform the essential job functions:
  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking on uneven surfaces, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • Able to operate a telephone and mine phone/radio with sufficient voice and hearing to carry on a conversation for the purpose of communicating information.
  • Able to hear sufficiently to distinguish various pitches of warning alarms.
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds periodically
