Job description

Journeyman and/or Master Cabinet Maker

Vail Valley, CO  •  Full-time  •  $40–$55/hr, DOE

Posted August 22, 2026

The Opportunity

Sawhorse Woodworking and Design builds custom cabinetry and fine woodwork for homes throughout the Vail Valley. Take a look at our work at sawhorsewoodworkingdesign.com before you apply. We have steady, ongoing project work on the books, and we're looking to add a Master Cabinet Maker to the shop for the long haul — not a fill-in for a busy season.

This is a craft-first shop. The people who do best here are the ones who'd rather spend an extra hour getting a reveal line right than let something average out the door.

The Craft

  • Design, build, and install custom cabinetry, built-ins, and fine furniture pieces to an exacting standard
  • Execute fine joinery — dovetails, mortise and tenon, and other traditional techniques — alongside modern cabinetmaking methods
  • Select and prepare materials, including hardwood, veneer, and sheet stock, with an eye for grain, color, and match
  • Operate and maintain shop machinery: table saws, planers, jointers, CNC equipment, and finishing tools
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, architectural plans, and finish schedules
  • Partner with clients, designers, and the project team from concept through final installation
  • Mentor junior shop staff and help keep the shop clean, organized, and running efficiently

Who We're Looking For

  • 5+ years building custom cabinetry or fine furniture, ideally on high-end residential work
  • True mastery of hand-tool and power-tool technique, including fine joinery
  • An eye for detail that doesn't quit once a piece looks “good enough”
  • Comfortable reading shop drawings and working independently from a set of plans
  • Ready to mentor others and take ownership of your own project timeline
  • Comfortable working in a mountain environment year-round
  • Valid driver's license, and legally authorized to work in the United States

What You'll Get

  • $40–$55/hr, based on experience
  • Immediate start with steady, long-term work already on the books
  • Small shop where your name is on the work and everyone knows it
  • Room to grow with the company as we take on more of the Valley's custom projects
  • Education / training support
  • Hiring bonus
  • Paid time off
