Job description

As an AV and LV Installation Technician  at The Werd Company, you’ll be at the center of the action with The Werd Company’s dynamic and growing Audiovisual team in Austin, TX. You will help pre-designed AV systems become reality, maintain existing systems and have input in these processes. The AV and LV Installation Technician thrives in a rapidly evolving environment and is exceptionally flexible, able to carry out a broad scope of responsibilities.

What You’ll Do:
  • Mount hardware including but not limited to speakers, visual displays, AV rack gear, projectors, cameras, I/O wall plates.
  • Pull cable for structured cable installation including audio and network cabling.
  • Perform cable terminations including but not limited to RJ45, EuroBlock, RG6, and XLR.
  • Test point to point functionality of systems.
  • Use power and hand tools in a safe and effective manner.
  • Read and interpret premade blueprints and schematics.
  • Keep a positive attitude when changes are made to the scope of work.
  • Perform maintenance on and troubleshoot existing systems with guidance from management, sometimes at odd hours or days, depending on the situation.
  • Work alongside Designers to specify and procure relevant tools and hardware required for the project.
  • Collaborate with Warehouse Manager regarding logistics, organization, storage and transportation of materials to and from site.
  • Interface with Labor Coordinator regarding scheduling crew for projects.
  • Supervise crew on-site, providing direction and assistance when needed.
  • Act as on-site liaison to Client, General Contractor, and other relevant personnel.
  • Provide reports to Project Managers as to projects’ onsite progress.
  • Attend regular meetings with Designer, Project Manager and other relevant personnel to discuss project needs.
  • Occasionally travel outside of Austin for projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Personality and Skill Requirements:
  • Prefer 4 years working experience in AV / IT commercial installation.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Proactively anticipates problems and actively prevents them.
  • Report and escalate to management as needed.
  • Knowledge of how AV / IT systems function and interact with each other.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a strong ability to offer suggestions and improvements to processes and work effectively across a range of personalities.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Audiovisual and networking systems.
  • Must have a friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to continuously acquire new competencies and accept new challenges.
  • Has an openness to learn new technologies.
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
  • Has an “above and beyond” mindset.
  • CTS, CTS-I, or CTS-D certification is a plus.
  • Certifications with manufacturers such as Crestron, Atlona, Shure, QSC, etc is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Has a strong existing network of professional colleagues.
Job Type and Compensation:
  • Temporary / Seasonal - this position has varied hours per week and is based on an as-needed basis.
  • Non-Exempt, $30-40/hr (rate based on experience and skill level).
