Position Description
Asphalt Raker is an hourly-rated skilled craft position that assists with the application of asphalt on highways/private roadways/parking lots/driveways using handheld tools.
Key Duties
  • Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project.
  • Responsible for the finished product while enforcing proper safety and traffic precautions.
  • Prepare road surfaces for hot asphalt material.
  • Distribute and rake asphalt material used in construction, repair and resurfacing.
  • Finish surfaces by smoothing and tamping asphalt material to the proper grade and thickness to properly adhere material to road surface.
  • Repair utility cuts by removing temporary material and replacing with permanent hot asphalt material
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

Work Context:
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time.
  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
  • Must possess a good degree of stamina, as they often stand for long shifts with few breaks.
  • Noise level is generally loud.
  • Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
  • Often work long and odd hours, day or night, in extreme heat or cold.
