The Department of Library Services at Bridgewater State University is dedicated to meeting the needs of its communities, to updating its service models as pedagogies and librarianship evolve, to renewing the knowledge and skills of librarians and staff as practices change, to deploying new technologies to improve interactions with library users and to enhance user experiences. Successful candidates will be staff members who can work with their colleagues to help meet the mission of the department in serving and supporting our diverse campus community.
The Clement C. Maxwell Library at BSU is open an average of 94 hours each week during the academic year. It is a busy, dynamic place with classrooms, academic and administrative offices throughout the building. The library serves all BSU students, faculty, staff, researchers from across the country and world, as well as the residents of the surrounding communities.

Position Summary
The Department of Library Services invites applications for Part-time Research & Instruction Librarians. This is a temporary, non-benefited position. This position reports to Student Success Librarian. Hours may vary slightly when classes are not in session, during final exams, and on holidays.

Essential Duties
  • Provide reference and research assistance to Bridgewater State University students, faculty, community users in person, online and through other communication devices., which includes but is not limited to instructing users how to search the library's catalog, print resources, electronic databases, and other available information sources.
  • Deliver instructional support and information literacy assistance to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Teach classes in research strategies, information ethics, information discovery, library resources, and resource analysis.
  • Assist patrons with the use of library resources, technology, and services
  • Participate in library outreach, programming, and student engagement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with librarians and staff to support departmental and library-wide initiatives.
  • Work effectively with diverse populations in an inclusive academic environment.

Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program or completion expected within 6 months of hire.
  • Strong commitment to public services.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and communication skills including the ability to interact tactfully and skillfully with a wide variety of individuals in a diverse work environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations in an inclusive academic environment.
  • Knowledge of print, electronic, and network-based information resources, and technologies.
  • Ability to use technology effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to change.
  • Commitment to customer service excellence.
  • Experience teaching library instruction classes or other teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing reference or public services in an academic or public library.

Flexibility with work schedule is preferred.
