Job Description
The Booking Technician will perform a variety of duties including, but not limited to, FCIC/NCIC checks, processing appropriate paperwork from law enforcement personnel on all incoming arrests, verify documents from corrections personnel before releasing inmates, assist in court related issues, send and answer teletypes, enter arrest information via data entry, determine bond amounts, inform victims of inmate release, maintain files, respond to inquiries from the general public and perform other related duties deemed necessary by the bureau commander.
General Description of Duties
Tasks: Complete assignment as directed; maintain work areas; maintain general orders; perform duties at the intake desk; perform duties at the release desk; perform computer checks through FCIC/NCIC; perform court related functions; send and answer teletype; enter arrests; determine bond amounts; check completeness of incoming paperwork; verify inmate identity for intake/transfer/release; inform victim of inmate release; provide back-up within the bureau; receive, route. and disperse telephone calls/ messages; maintain confidential files; maintain and update files/reports/documentation.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma
  • 2 years experience (The term "experience," refers to active full-time employment, either in the same position, or directly related to the position applied for. The experience must have occurred within the three (3) years prior to application with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.)
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of computer and office equipment required to perform the position tasks.
  • Efficient in time management skills relating to daily work activities, tasks, and special assignments.
  • Ability to work shifts which will include evening, weekend and holidays.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbal and written, demonstrating an awareness for human diversity to citizens and colleagues.

Additional Information
Shift Work - The Jail operates 24 hours per day/7 days per week. Shifts assignments include weekends, holidays, on call, hurricanes, evacuations, or other state of emergencies. Shifts are not rotating; you must be flexible and able to work 12-hour shifts including day shift (0600-1800) or night shift (1800-0600). There is no guarantee of shift assignment, it is based on the need, and will likely start as night shift. You will be able to bid for a desired shift assignment every 6 months, based on seniority.
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office requires all employees to have either an associates degree, 60 equivalent hours from an accredited college or university or the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test. The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test measures verbal and quantitative skills. Sworn *Law Enforcement and Corrections Deputies must achieve a minimum passing score of Verbal - 267 and Quantitative - 241. Civilians must achieve a minimum passing score of Verbal - 248 and Quantitative - 241.
*Law Enforcement Deputies/Recruits must meet additional requirements to qualify.
Local institution to administer the Wonderlic: Suncoast Technical College 941-924-1365 ext. 62322. Fee $40 Hours of Operations: Monday through Thursday 7:30am to 3:00pm Friday 7:30am to 2:00pm. TESTING IS SCHEDULED BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
