Job description

Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM)is a multi-disciplinary arts center located in Brooklyn, New York. For more than 150 years, BAM has been the home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas—engaging both global and local communities. With world-renowned programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and much more, BAM showcases the work of emerging artists and innovative modern masters. 

An ideal member of the Bam Rose Cinemas floor staff will deliver excellent customer service to all patrons entering the cinema daily. They will work in a team environment to operate the Box Office, Concession Stand, Door, and ‘Usher/Cleaning’, ensuring smooth operation, and maintaining all health and safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • With guidance from the Cinema Management Team, a Cinema Floor staff will be responsible for learning and administering the following duties:
  • Learn multiple point-of-sale software for use at the cinema concession stand as well as the ticket box office.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively to customers, directing them around our buildings and answering any relevant questions
  • Report to work promptly
  • Displaying a welcoming, professional and upbeat appearance
  • Maintain a balanced cash register at the concession stand and ticket box office
  • Maintain the daily upkeep of the Cinema space during operations. (cinemas, workspace, lobby)
  • Beer & Wine sales must follow all NYC laws and regulations
  • Work within a team environment and take directions from managers
  • Cinema Floor Staff are expected to learn all facets of the position including concession, door attendant, box office attendant, floor staff cleaning
    • Ability to provide friendly and polite customer service
    • MUST be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
    • Requires ability to climb stairs and stand throughout performances
    • Requires ability to lift boxes
    • Works well with others and is a team player
    • Must be 18 years or older due to our sales of beer & wine
    • Previous customer service experience
    • Interest in the nonprofit arts community and BAM
    • Strong oral and written communications skills
    • Excellent multitasking skills
    • Extremely organized, enjoys working systematically

    Compensation: The pay rate for this position is $20.50 per hour. The role is represented by Local 2110 and will be paid in accordance with the BAM/UAW Local 2110 Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is part-time, non-exempt, and eligible for Sick and Safe Time and Paid Hours off.

    • This role is on-site and cannot be conducted remotely.
    • Requires the ability to climb stairs, stand for long periods of time, and lift/carry objects of 10-15 lbs

    • Performed in a satisfactory manner without any corrective actions in the last 12 months
