Description

Union Electric Steel Corporation is seeking a Millwright for our Valparaiso, IN manufacturing plant. This is an hourly position and applicants must be willing to work rotating shifts and weekends, as required. Applicant must also be able to provide documentation of millwright status. The Millwright will inspect, repair, replace, and install as well as maintain all mechanical equipment in the facility.


Candidates must be capable of maintaining industrial equipment, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, layout, fabrication and welding, diagnosing machine failure, reading blueprints and diagrams, hydraulics and pneumatic and machining procedures as well as provide a valid Journeyman Millwright card/certificate or show equal skilled trade status.

This is an hourly position in a unionized setting and individuals must be willing to work all shifts and weekends, as required.


Primary Function:

To inspect, repair, replace, install, adjust, and maintain all mechanical equipment in the plant.


Tools and Equipment:

Drill press, power saw, chain fall, burning and welding equipment, portable power tools, miscellaneous hand tools, measuring devices, pipe threading, cutting and bending tools, etc.


Materials:

Some materials are: Plant mechanical equipment, repair parts, lubricants, hardware, packing, miscellaneous stores materials, etc.


Working Procedures:

1. Receives instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repair, installation, and inspection work to be done.

2. Inspects plant equipment for defects, such as misalignment, wear, insufficient lubrication, etc.

3. Determines the best way of making repairs to minimize interruption of production.

4. Advises when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect.

5. Dismantles, cleans repairs, replaces, installs, maintains, assembles, and lubricates mechanical equipment.

6. Adjusts equipment for proper operating characteristics.

7. May make either temporary or permanent repairs.

8. Assembles and aligns gears, bearings, and shafts involving the application of press, sliding and running fits.

9. Performs pipe maintenance work, cuts, threads, bend and installs pipe on repair or installation work.

10. Sets up and operates power tools such as drill press, pipe-threading machine, power saw.

11. Responsible for Babbitt's and scrapes bearings as required.

12. Erects scaffolds and performs simple rigging as necessary.

13. Refers to and interprets drawings in the maintenance and erection of equipment an make rough sketches as directed.

14. Changes, sets up and adjusts equipment as required by current operating conditions.

15. Directs and assists in cleaning up area after repair or installation is completed.

16. Operates mobile equipment as needed.

17. Will be responsible to supervision for maintaining standard stock of maintenance supplies and equipment.

18. Perform burning or welding necessary for maintenance work.

19. May burn plugs as required.
