Job description

Product Designer – Xbox Media

At Xbox Media, We're reimagining how brands connect with millions of players worldwide. We're looking for a Product Designer to help create innovative, immersive ad formats that blend naturally into gaming environments. This role sits at the intersection of creative design, interaction design, and product design. You'll work closely with product managers, engineers, game studios, researchers, and creative strategists to design and develop ad experiences that are player-first, engaging, and commercially effective.

Xbox Media builds the player-first, full-stack monetization technology that powers advertising across Xbox surfaces and ad-supported gameplay. We enable meaningful player engagement, publisher success, and platform growth by delivering trusted, high-quality ad experiences at global scale. Backed by Xbox and Microsoft, our platform blends deep gaming insights, privacy-forward data, and world-class engineering to make Xbox Media the most effective and trusted ad platform in gaming.

Hybrid work arrangement: This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, and the home studio for this role is San Francisco, CA.

Your role within Xbox Media:

  • Contribute to the end-to-end design of new immersive ad formats, from early concepts and prototypes through to production.
  • Translate product requirements and early ideas into clear, cohesive design solutions that feel native to gameplay.
  • Participate in creative ideation sessions and contribute concepts that balance player experience with advertiser value.
  • Communicate design ideas through clear storytelling, visual design, prototypes, and motion.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, marketing, creative, and research partners to develop and iterate on concepts.
  • Design interaction patterns and visual systems that are intuitive, engaging, and aligned with game mechanics.
  • Support player research and playtesting to validate design decisions and improve the experience.
  • Create and maintain design documentation, specifications, and implementation guidelines.
  • Incorporate feedback from design leads, stakeholders, users, and cross-functional partners.
  • Advocate for player needs and high-quality design throughout the product development process.
  • Stay informed about trends in gaming, advertising, interaction design, and immersive media.
  • Create animations and polished prototypes that demonstrate user interface interactions and intended behaviors.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience in product, interaction, visual, or creative design required; 8+ years preferred.
  • BA/BS degree is preferred; equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered, with years of relevant experience considered in lieu of formal education.
  • A portfolio demonstrating thoughtful product and interaction design work, including examples of interactive or game-related experiences.
  • Experience applying, evolving, or contributing to visual design systems.
  • Experience using prototyping or motion tools such as Principle, Framer, After Effects, or similar platforms.
  • A solid understanding of user-centered design principles, interaction design, and visual design fundamentals.
  • Experience designing ad formats, monetization features, or branded experiences within games. (Bonus qualification)
  • Illustration skills that can support the creation of game-inspired assets, icons, storyboards, or UI elements.
  • Experience creating motion design or interactive prototypes for real-time environments.
