The Maintenance Technician - Building is responsible for performing skilled mechanical maintenance work with installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of plumbing, piping, grounds maintenance, snow removal and other building and print production support equipment.

  • The BMT (Building Maintenance Tech) is responsible for repair & maintenance: Recycling Systems (Balers, Blowers HVAC systems, refrigeration systems
  • Knowledge/Repair of Walk-in Coolers, icemakers, and refrigerated air dryers, air compressors,
  • Knowledge/Repair of Industrial Vacuum Pumps, Electric motors, belt drives and mechanical couplings.
  • Knowledge/Repair of Industrial Air Compressors.
  • Knowledge/Familiarity with building control systems.
  • Knowledge/Repair of chillers and chill water systems, chemical treatment and water softeners.
  • Knowledge/Familiarity: Grounds Maintenance and Landscaping
  • Knowledgeable with Snow Removal Equipment
  • Performs Grounds Maintenance and snow removal as required
  • Experience/Knowledge of repair with overhead doors, fire doors, dock equipment, rail dock equipment.
  • Repair toilets, urinals, drain cleaning.
  • Repair roof leaks and make temporary repairs.
  • Perform sheetrock maintenance and painting.
  • Ability to perform drop ceiling repair and tile change outs.
  • Ability to solider/weld pipe

Qualifications:

Education

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a maintenance program at a vocational/technical school or a recognized apprenticeship program in general mechanical maintenance

Experience

  • Mechanical or industrial maintenance experience

Required Skills

  • Possess basic welding, soldering and metal fabrication skills
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, mechanical drawings and sketches
  • Possess good oral, reading and writing skills for effective communication
  • Mechanic must furnish their own basic set of mechanic hand tools
  • Must know how to properly operate and maintain power tools to keep them in safe working order at all times

Preferred Skills

  • Strong background in HVAC, plumbing, piping, fitting, hydraulics, and pneumatics is preferred
  • Driver's License for snow removal operations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and transport up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis
  • Physical endurance and mobility for prolonged standing, walking, frequent bending, stooping, and reaching
  • Ability to work from ladders, lifts, or elevated platforms – indoors and outdoors – and be able to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to work a 12-hour shift and be available for overtime as required
