Facilities Instrumentation & Controls Technician

 

Qorvo is seeking a Facilities Controls Technician with experience with industrial instrumentation and controls components and building automation systems.  In this role you will be responsible for installing, programming, testing, calibrating, operating, servicing, and repairing controls components along with their related software, hardware, and equipment.  You will also have responsibility for related PM's, emergency maintenance as necessary to support plant operations and perform other repairs and installations as needed. This role reports to the site Facilities Engineering Manager.

 

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Install, commission, program, and troubleshoot industrial instrumentation and controls systems, including sensors, transmitters, control valves, VFDs, drives, and actuators.
  • Maintain and support Building Management Systems including HVAC, exhaust, process cooling water, chilled water, compressed air, and specialty gas monitoring.
  • Perform calibration, loop checks, functional testing, and validation of control and safety systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLC, HMI, SCADA, BMS controllers, I/O modules, and communication networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, BACnet, etc.).
  • Support preventive maintenance (PM) programs and execute corrective and emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Respond to afterhours and emergency callins as required to support plant operations.
  • Interpret and update P&IDs, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and loop drawings.
  • Assist with controls upgrades, expansion projects, and retrofits, including coordination with contractors and system integrators.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and change management procedures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting documentation in CMMS and control system databases.
  • Provide technical input and support to Facilities Engineers and Operations teams.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability, energy efficiency, and safety.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED with 8 years of relevant experience or 5 years of experience with an Associate's Degree.
  • 3+ years of experience working with industrial instrumentation and controls or facilities automation systems.
  • Computer/software skills - Outlook, Excel, Word, SAP, and AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of instrumentation, control systems, PLCs, Life Safety, and Fire Alarm and ENS systems
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) platforms and HVAC control systems.
  • Handson experience with PLCbased systems (AllenBradley, Siemens, Schneider, or similar).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, ladder logic, and control drawings.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and chemical systems and their interface with system controls and instrumentation
  • Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Proficiency with standard hand tools, electrical test equipment, and calibration instruments.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation, and safety practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Semiconductor, pharmaceutical, chemical, or hightech manufacturing facility experience.
  • Experience with critical utility systems (chillers, boilers, scrubbers, exhaust systems, UPW, CDA, vacuum)
  • BAS experience with platforms such as Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider, or similar.
  • Ability to modify or develop PLC logic, HMI screens, and control sequences.
  • OSHA safety training, electrical certifications, or instrumentation calibration certifications.
  • Self-starter requiring little direction to identify and solve problems
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
  • Ability to interface professionally and effectively with all levels
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
