Job description

Job Title: Principal Systems Verification Engineer

Job Description

This role leads system-level Verification and Validation (V&V) activities for a complex U.S. Navy weapon system program. The Systems Verification Engineer owns the verification strategy, drives requirements verification and traceability, and ensures system-level validation across highly integrated hardware, software, and model-based subsystems in a multi-contractor environment. The position requires close collaboration with prime contractors, subcontractors, and government stakeholders, as well as strong technical leadership in requirements analysis and verification planning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive system-level Verification and Validation (V&V) strategy for a complex U.S. Navy weapon system program.
  • Define and implement the overall verification approach, including planning, coordination, and reporting across integrated subsystems.
  • Own the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the Requirements Verification Traceability Matrix (RVTM).
  • Ensure complete and accurate requirements traceability from system-level requirements down through subsystems and verification artifacts.
  • Define and apply appropriate verification methods, including test, analysis, inspection, and demonstration, based on requirement characteristics.
  • Perform detailed requirements analysis to ensure clarity, completeness, consistency, and testability of system and subsystem requirements.
  • Decompose and allocate system-level requirements to subsystems and verification activities in a structured and traceable manner.
  • Lead coordination of verification activities across multiple subsystem teams, prime contractors, and subcontractors in a multi-team environment.
  • Support and contribute to Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETRs) and formal verification events with clear, well-documented evidence.
  • Prepare high-quality technical documentation, including verification plans, RVTM updates, and verification reports.
  • Present technical material, status, and verification evidence to internal leadership and U.S. Navy customers in a clear and concise manner.
  • Interface directly with government stakeholders to align verification approaches, address questions, and resolve issues related to requirements and traceability.
  • Support integration of hardware, software, and models into a cohesive verification framework and ensure verification coverage across all domains.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience developing, managing, and maintaining Requirements Verification Traceability Matrices (RVTM) and requirements traceability.
  • Experience in system-level verification for complex Department of Defense (DoD) weapon systems.
  • Experience performing requirements analysis, including assessment of clarity, completeness, and testability.
  • Experience with requirements decomposition and allocation across subsystems.
  • Proven ability to work effectively across multi-team and multi-contractor system environments.
  • DoD program experience, such as work on F-35, U.S. Navy systems, or similar large-scale defense programs.
  • Ability to interface directly and professionally with government stakeholders, including presenting technical content and responding to inquiries.
  • Strong understanding of system-level verification methods, including test, analysis, inspection, and demonstration.
  • Experience working with system-level requirements in highly integrated systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Trident or U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) or similar Navy programs.
  • Prior work specifically focused on Verification and Validation (V&V), beyond general systems engineering responsibilities.
  • Relevant professional certification in systems engineering or a related discipline.
  • Active or prior security clearance.
  • Experience working with highly integrated systems that combine hardware, software, and models into a unified architecture.

Work Environment

The role operates within a complex defense program environment focused on U.S. Navy weapon systems, involving close collaboration with prime contractors, subcontractors, and government stakeholders. Work centers on system-level Verification and Validation (V&V) activities, including development and maintenance of Requirements Verification Traceability Matrices (RVTM), coordination of verification methods such as test, analysis, inspection, and demonstration, and participation in Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETRs) and formal verification events. The position requires regular preparation of technical documentation and presentations for internal leadership and Navy customers, and active engagement in a multi-team, multi-contractor setting that integrates hardware, software, and models. The environment emphasizes structured systems engineering practices, rigorous requirements management, and disciplined verification processes.
