General Notes
THIS IS A TEMPORARY, 6-MONTH POSITION. You'll be working for a university that is internationally recognized for our academic programs and research. Your work will contribute to operational excellence and enhance the student experience. Purpose
Provide basic ground maintenance services to maintain the health and appearance of the landscape at The University of Texas at Austin.
Responsibilities
  • Maintains landscape to university standards (to include all turf, shrubs, and hardscapes) and reports trouble conditions on campus that might be a safety hazard to the university community.
  • Safely operates landscaping equipment to include push mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers and other hand tools used in landscape work.
  • Picks up litter, empties trash receptacles, and keeps University property neat and orderly.
  • Readily accepts and follows written and oral instructions, maintains work schedule set by the supervisor, and complete routine paperwork to include weekly electronic time reports, daily labor reports, vehicle usage log, and other UT related electronic forms.
  • Wears appropriate personal protective equipment, PPE, for the task, follow safety rules, maintain safe working conditions.
  • Driving University owned vehicles to job sites will be required for this and most other functions. Cleans, maintains, operates university vehicle, and maintains acceptable driver rating as established in Policy UTS157 Section 2.5.4.
  • Adheres to and performs related functions as assigned, and works overtime in support of special events, emergencies and planned after hours work.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED. Experience following basic work instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, office staff, and university community. Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently. Demonstrates stable work history and work ethic. Experience with basic computer operations to complete data entry and or electronic forms. Ability to pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs. Capable of working in all types of adverse conditions (environmental, weather, dust, loud noise, heights, fumes, smoke, air pollution, allergens, etc.). Must have a current driver license, or ability to obtain license within 3 months. Candidate's Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 36 months must be clear. This includes all states resided in for past 36 months. Candidate must provide out of state MVR's. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
One year experience in landscape maintenance work in a university, institutional, or commercial setting to include operating power mowers, cultivators, edgers, small sweepers, and other equipment used in gardening work including the required qualifications.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Employment Eligibility:
Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers. Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
