Job description

Position: Communications Coordinator
Diocese of Gaylord

Location: Gaylord, MI
General Summary:
The Communications Coordinator is a creative and detailed-orientated individual working in conjunction with the Communications team in sharing key messages, promoting strategic initiatives, building constituent relationships, and creating and analyzing reports while keeping department consistent with best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Shoots and edits videos for the bishop and key events/ministries and rotates on the schedule for recording the weekly Saturday Vigil Mass.
  • Maintains and oversees the operation of Mass Recording TV Control Room systems and conference room audiovisual equipment, including hardware, software, and associated technologies; coordinates and supervises preventive maintenance, repairs, upgrades and vendor support to ensure reliable performance and minimal downtime.
  • Maintains advanced proficiency in Control Room and audiovisual equipment and video editing software, including Final Cut Pro; serves as a technical resource for staff by troubleshooting issues and providing user support.
  • Responsible for submitting closed captioning to Dynamic Captioning as it relates to the televised Mass.
  • Assists with still photography for portraits and candid shots at diocesan events.
  • Serves as diocesan website coordinator:
    • Creates and maintains fresh content for the diocesan website.
    • Revises web pages with new/updated content (news, events, bulletin announcements calendars, parishes, schools, etc.).
    • Manages online diocesan, parish, and school directories.
    • Administers access rights of different users on website.
    • Works with website designers maintaining the appearance of the website, generating new web pages, and designing new content as needed.
    • Oversees website best practices including consistent naming conventions, file types and sizes, usability, and maintaining address and links.
    • Creates, analyzes, distributes reports on web page traffic.
  • Acts as first liaison to constituency by responding to all incoming diocesan inquiries from the website or general phone inquiries.
  • Provides parish support regarding communications initiatives (bulletin announcements, access to secure side of web, communications consultation, etc.).
  • Maintains various directories, updating demographic information in data sources like staff directory and Raisers Edge.
  • Processes department invoices and contracts.
  • Serves on FAITH magazine’s planning team and assists with local news, proofreading and photography.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, video production or related field.
  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in a Communications role.
  • Proficiency in video editing software, including Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro; experience with Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Strong written and visual communication skills.
  • Must be able to work occasional weekends, evening hours, and holidays with advance notice.
  • Familiarity with Catholic liturgies and values.
Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working with hands in repetitive motion.
  • Must possess the visual and audio acuity necessary to operate cameras, adjust focus, and monitor video and audio quality.
  • Requires reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, and bending.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at time.
