Purchasing Specialist (Food Manufacturing | Ingredients, Packaging & Production Supplies)Employment Type: Direct Hire
Pay Range: $22.00-$23.00 per hour
Location: Coconut Creek, Florida
Work Schedule: Onsite, Monday through FridayOverview

Keep a high-volume commercial bakery running smoothly by ensuring the right ingredients, packaging, and production supplies are always available—at the right quality and cost. As a Purchasing Specialist, you’ll plan, source, negotiate, and purchase materials that directly support daily production, while building strong supplier partnerships and maintaining accurate inventory data. You’ll collaborate closely with Production, Warehouse, Quality, Finance, and Sales to forecast needs, prevent shortages, control spend, and support food safety and regulatory compliance.

Required Skills

• Purchasing/procurement experience supporting production needs in a fast-paced environment
• Strategic sourcing and supplier negotiation skills (price, quality, service, delivery terms)
• Strong vendor relationship management and supplier performance evaluation
• Working knowledge of inventory management, forecasting, and replenishment planning
• Ability to analyze purchasing trends, market conditions, and commodity pricing for cost-saving opportunities
• Experience creating/reviewing purchase orders, invoices, and contracts for accuracy and compliance
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP/inventory management systems and maintaining accurate purchasing/inventory records
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Clear communication, strong organization, and effective problem-solving
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a manufacturing setting

Nice to Have Skills

• Background in commercial bakery, food manufacturing, or consumer packaged goods (CPG)
• Familiarity with food safety and regulatory standards such as GMPs, HACCP, and FDA requirements
• Exposure to SQF or BRC certification standards
• Supply chain certification such as APICS, CPSM, or similar

Preferred Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field (preferred)
• 2+ years of purchasing/procurement experience (preferred), ideally within food manufacturing or commercial baking
• Demonstrated experience managing supplier relationships and supporting inventory planning

Other Requirements

• Ability to regularly walk production and warehouse areas
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
• Comfortable working in warehouse, cooler, and manufacturing environments as needed
