Job description
Responsibilities
This faculty position offers an exciting opportunity to support student success through information literacy instruction, research assistance, collection development, and innovative library services. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to advance teaching, learning, and scholarship across the institution.
Direct and supervise the operations of the Journalism and Graphic Communication Resource Center; Provide leadership in the creation and implementation of guidelines and procedures to increase and improve effectiveness of service, and productivity; Provide assistance to faculty in identifying library resources and open education resources that may be used in their classes; Teach information literacy instruction onsite, or online, to inform library users about resources that support learning, teaching, and research outcomes; Provide reference services to all users, and includes providing virtual reference via Ask-A-Librarian; Provide excellent quality customer service to a diverse, group of students, faculty, and staff; and ensure that equipment, services, and resources are meeting the needs and expectations of a varied group of users.
Participate in assessment activities in order to implement a cycle of continuous improvement, in alignment with best practices for academic libraries; Serve as the liaison to the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication, as well as other assigned schools/colleges/departments; Provide outreach services by meeting with academic department coordinators, academic advisors, and faculty members to support effective usage of library materials; Serve as the Ask A Librarian coordinator, which may include scheduling librarians and trained staff to monitor the AAL desk, promoting AAL activities, providing AAL training, maintaining the AAL LibGude for Librarians, and gathering and compiling AAL usage statistics; Serve on library, university, local, statewide and/or national committees; Inform subordinates of all relevant university regulations and internal operating procedures and provides access to all related documents; Employ measures of accountability for compliance with University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures; and perform other responsibilities and duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master of Library Science degree, or, Master of Library and Information Science degree from an American Library Association accredited institution.
Recommended Competencies
Must have effective communication skills, to include oral and written communication skills;
Must be able to teach information literacy classes;
Must be able to provide reference and research services, in support of students and faculty;
Must be able to serve as an effective liaison for the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication and other assigned departments;
Must have knowledge of best practices for academic libraries;
Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to serve a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff; and,
Must have the ability to use library and office software programs for various library management functions.
Pay Plan
This is a Faculty position.
Conditions of Employment
Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education. An official college transcript, a high school diploma, or other educational documents must be submitted, where applicable, at the time of employment.
Only United States (U.S.) citizens or aliens who have a legal right to work in the U.S. are eligible for employment. Federal law requires proof of your authorization to work in the United States. You will be required to provide proof of your identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of employment.
Section 110.1128, Florida Statutes, prohibits employment by the State (including re-hire after a break in service) of any male born after October 1, 1962, who failed to register with the Selective Service System, under the provisions of the U.S. Military Selective Service Act, during the person's period of eligibility (ages 18 through 25). Additionally, if currently employed by the State, this law prohibits the promotion of such person. You may be required to provide documentation.
