Our team provides qualified Accounting and Finance professionals on a temporary and permanent basis across a broad range of industries. GHJ's relationship with our Global Advisory and Accounting Network provides the resources needed to better understand client's needs, attract a higher caliber of candidates and assess candidate potential.

A growing nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its day-to-day accounting operations and help drive financial excellence across the organization. This is an outstanding opportunity for a hands-on leader who enjoys mentoring teams, improving processes, and partnering with executive leadership to support a meaningful mission.
 
Overview
 
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and the monthly close process while leading a team of accounting professionals. The ideal candidate brings strong nonprofit accounting expertise, a collaborative leadership style, and a passion for building efficient financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Prepare financial statements, management reports, and budget variance analyses
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Lead the annual financial audit and coordinate with external auditors
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning in partnership with finance leadership
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals
  • Drive process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and support financial systems enhancements
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • CPA required
  • 5-10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including nonprofit accounting
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit GAAP (ASC 958) and financial reporting
  • Experience leading accounting teams and managing audits
  • Proficiency with enterprise accounting systems and advanced Excel skills (Sage Intacct experience preferred)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
