Job description

Job Description Join a specialised laboratory team in Sugar Land supporting critical cementing operations for the energy sector. This is a hands-on role where your technical expertise with high-pressure, high-temperature testing and analytical equipment directly impacts product quality, safety, and operational performance. About the Role: As a Lab Technician, you will perform and support laboratory testing related to cementing applications under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions.

You will ensure accurate sample preparation, reliable test execution, and proper equipment performance to deliver high-quality data to engineers and project teams. Your work will help validate formulations, troubleshoot field issues, and maintain compliance with internal standards and procedures. Key Responsibilities: Operate and maintain laboratory equipment used for high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT) cement testing and related analyses.

Collect, label, and manage cement and fluid samples, ensuring proper preparation, handling, and storage for testing. Perform HPHT cementing tests according to established methods, recording data and observations with high accuracy. Calibrate and verify analytical instruments to ensure reliable measurements across all laboratory activities.

Troubleshoot routine equipment and instrumentation issues, coordinating repairs or service when needed. Execute test procedures, document results, and prepare technical summaries for review by engineers and supervisors. Adhere to laboratory safety protocols, housekeeping standards, and quality control procedures during all work.

Support continuous improvement of lab workflows by identifying process issues and suggesting practical enhancements. Key Requirements: Proven experience operating and maintaining laboratory equipment in a technical or industrial lab environment. Minimum 3 years of hands-on work in high-pressure/high-temperature (HTHP) cementing laboratories.

Strong skills in sample collection, preparation, handling, and chain-of-custody documentation. Demonstrated ability to calibrate, validate, and troubleshoot analytical instruments. Proficiency in following detailed test procedures and accurately recording data in lab systems.

Solid understanding of laboratory safety practices, including handling of chemicals and pressurised equipment. Ability to work independently, manage multiple tests concurrently, and meet turnaround times. Effective communication skills for reporting test results and equipment status to technical stakeholders.

Desirable Skills: Experience with cement rheology, thickening time, and compressive strength testing under HPHT conditions. Familiarity with industry standards and methods related to cementing (e.g., API or similar). Background in oilfield services or energy sector laboratory operations

Basic data analysis skills using spreadsheets or laboratory information management systems (LIMS). Experience supporting method development or optimisation in a cementing or materials lab. Qualifications: 2-year Associate Degree in a scientific or technical discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Laboratory Science, Engineering Technology) - required

Additional technical coursework or certifications in laboratory operations, instrumentation, or cementing technology - preferred. Documented training in HPHT laboratory safety and equipment operation - preferred. If you bring hands-on HPHT cementing lab experience and want to contribute directly to high-impact testing work, please apply to be considered for this contract opportunity.
