Lab Technician (Clinical Laboratory)

Location: 810 West Hwy 71, Marble Falls, TX Pay Rate: $60 – $65 per hour Job Type: Temp to Perm Travel Required: Yes Assignment Length: 13 Weeks Work Schedule: 3 × 12-hour shifts | 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM | Every Other Weekend Required Shift: Day (AM) On-Call: Possible on-call for scheduled shifts Interview Process: 1 Round – Virtual Department: Clinical Laboratory Services Scrub Color: Navy

Certification & Education Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology / Clinical Laboratory Science
  • MLT or MLS certification (ASCP or equivalent) – required
  • State licensure (if applicable)
  • BLS preferred
  • Experience with EPIC or Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) preferred

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory experience
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and protocols
  • Experience in specimen collection, processing, and analysis
  • Familiarity with hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and urinalysis
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills

Job Summary

The Lab Technician is responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory tests that aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This role supports physicians and clinical teams by providing accurate, timely, and reliable laboratory results while ensuring compliance with laboratory standards, safety regulations, and quality control procedures.

The Lab Technician works in collaboration with laboratory scientists, pathologists, nurses, and healthcare providers to maintain efficient laboratory operations in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Testing & Analysis

  • Perform laboratory tests in hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, and microbiology
  • Prepare specimens for analysis, ensuring correct labeling and handling
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Validate test results and identify abnormal findings for review

Specimen Collection & Handling

  • Collect blood and other specimens following established procedures
  • Ensure proper specimen storage, transport, and disposal
  • Follow infection control and safety guidelines at all times

Documentation & Compliance

  • Accurately document test results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) or EPIC
  • Maintain quality control records and participate in proficiency testing
  • Adhere to CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and hospital laboratory standards

Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate critical values promptly to providers and nursing staff
  • Work closely with laboratory supervisors and healthcare teams
  • Support workflow efficiency and timely turnaround of lab results

Quality & Professional Practice

  • Participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Maintain competency through continuing education and training
