Essential Job Functions
  • Assist in physical set-up and takedown of event equipment including tables, chairs, tents, trash receptacles, signage, etc.
  • Staff events, manage event areas as needed and answer guest questions.
  • Interact and communicate effectively with the public.
  • Work effectively around large crowds of people.
  • Flexibility to perform many different work duties during an event.
  • Other event-related preparation, tasks and duties as assigned.

This position is within the Special Events Division during the event season which runs May - October. This is a temporary, seasonal position and hours will vary based on department needs. Additional hours may be available for set-up prior to the event. Must be available to work the following dates:
  1. Hometown Holidays at Rockville Town Center: Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24
  2. Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade: Monday, May 25
  3. Suds and Soles 5k Race: Saturday, June 13
  4. Independence Day Celebration: Saturday, July 4
  5. Rocktobierfest (optional but preferred): Saturday, September 26
  6. Rockville Antique and Classic Car Show (optional but preferred): Saturday, October 17

Qualifications
  • Ability to stand on your feet for extended periods of time and work longer shifts.
  • Comfortable lifting, bending, and moving items up to 30 pounds.
  • Flexibility to perform many different work duties during an event.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative on tasks and has attention to detail.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
Special Events Leader I - High school student and at least 16 years of age. Some experience interacting with the public.
Special Events Leader II - High school student/graduate. Candidate is a self-starter and can take the lead on a project and has 1-2 years in working/volunteering at events. Driver license preferred.
Special Events Leader III - High school graduate. Candidate is a self-starter and can take the lead on a project and has 2-3 years in working/volunteering at events. Driver license preferred.
Special Events Leader IV - High school graduate, some college/technical training. Candidate has 1-2 experience as a crew supervisor, has other technical training such as operating heavy machinery (i.e. forklift) and 3-4 years working/volunteering at events.
