Job description

This is a temporary, short-term position with the potential to become a longer-term opportunity.
Summary
The Plant Operator is vital in the overall operation of the plant and facilities. Plant Operators perform the tasks necessary for the day-to-day operations and production of products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Opens and closes valves for product transfers
  • Performs general preventative maintenance of pump and valve systems
  • Operates equipment
  • Inspects tanks periodically
  • Troubleshoots mechanics of plant systems
  • Weighs trucks, pre- and post-loading
  • Loads emulsion trucks
  • General Labor
  • Follows all safety policies and practices
  • All other duties as assigned

Skills and Education
Required
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Solid math and reading skills, and the ability to understand technical manuals
  • Two (2) years production/maintenance experience OR oil and gas industry experience OR completion of mechanical/industrial trade school program
  • Aptitude for learning new tasks and skills

Preferred
  • Asphalt materiel handling
  • Proficient computer skills

Job Requirements
  • Ability to work in a team environment with laboratory and sales personnel, as well as the ability to work independently without close supervision
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed
  • Willingness to be flexible in scheduling
  • Ability to safely lift at least 50 pounds and tolerate scents common to fuels and asphalt operation
  • Ability to perform work which requires frequent and regular movement of wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Ability to perform work which requires frequent and regular walking and standing
  • Ability to see, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity

Work Environment
This position requires its responsibilities to be performed in an asphalt emulsions manufacturing plant. Plants are outdoors and may require that work be done in adverse weather conditions. Work conditions may involve exposure to hot materials, chemicals, fumes, dust, odors, gases, and other substances used in a construction environment.
